Team Parker Racing is very happy to announce that Matt Armstrong will make a return to the team in the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB for 2022, after finishing third in the championship standings this season.
Matt made his debut in car racing in 2021, throwing himself in at the deep end with a full season in the series, having previously competed in the Motorsport UK British Kart Championships. Despite facing a difficult learning curve as he adapted from karting to the Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 Clubsport, the 22-year-old worked hard throughout the year to consistently improve his performances.
Gaining help and assistance from 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Josh Webster from mid-season onwards, Matt had his best results across the final two meetings of the campaign, claiming second and third place finishes at Thruxton in August and again at Donington Park in October.
Those drives included putting 2020 champion James Dorlin under significant pressure for the race lead during the final weekend, underlining just how far he’d come, while his haul of 33 points over the final four races was the highest of anyone in the Pro class, which also helped secure the Teams’ title in the process.
As well as his exploits in the series, Matt also had an enjoyable weekend sharing the car with his father Justin in a one-off appearance in the GT Cup Championship at Brands Hatch early in the year, with the hopes of further races together in the future.
The 2022 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB calendar adds an extra three races across the year, with an additional contest at each of the British GT Championship support meetings. The series will again also compete alongside the British Touring Car Championship on two occasions, while a standalone event with Porsche Club GB is yet to be announced.

“My first year in the Cayman was a challenge – in the early part of the season I struggled a lot with my confidence, but mid-season I started working with Josh Webster and he helped me believe in myself. When you look at the first Thruxton race, I was 30 seconds behind the leader but when we went back, I had two podiums.
“When we got to the final race of the season, I was able to challenge for the lead against James Dorlin, which was quite a big improvement, especially against someone that had already won the championship in 2020. That’s quite a big improvement for the year.
“I think the environment at Team Parker Racing is probably the most important thing. They’re serious, and they want to do well, but you always have time to have fun. I think the enjoyment of it is probably the most important part and even when I struggled, I still had a good time, which was the main thing.
“Next year when things warm up, I’ll get back in the car, but for now I’ll be focusing on my fitness as we have our own gym, Just One More in Hinckley, so I have no excuse to start the season out of shape!”
