Giti Tire Motorsport by WS Racing has entered an Audi R8 LMS GT4 for this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 Hours, with four drivers from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR preparing to take on one of the world’s most prestigious 24 hour races on June 22 to 23. He Xiaole, Li Fei, Sunny Wong and Andy Yan represent the rising force of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR in international motorsports and have, between them, a wealth of experience across multiple disciplines.
At the wheel of the #53 Audi R8 LMS GT4 are Beijing-born He Xiaole, an experienced GT and touring car driver – plus a keen ironman competitor, ideal training for the grueling Nürburgring 24 Hours. He made his debut in the race last year in a Phoenix Racing-entered Audi R8 LMS GT4, and therefore brings valuable experience to the line-up. Joining him are Li Fei and Hong Kong SAR drivers Sunny Wong, sixth in this year’s Dubai 24 Hours TCR class, and Andy Yan. Yan contested the inaugural FIA GT Nations Cup last year, flying the flag for the city of Hong Kong and finishing a creditable seventh amongst the cream of the world’s GT privateers.
“To have an Audi squad for the Nürburgring 24 Hours made up entirely from drivers from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR shows how far motorsport has grown in the region,” said Martin Kuehl, Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “This is one of the biggest weekends of the year for the Audi Sport customer racing family, and we wish the team and the rest of the Audi contingent all the best.”
The Audi R8 LMS GT3 has clinched overall victory in the Nürburgring 24 Hours four times, and the weekend has become a focal point for Audi motorsport competition with its now-famous Audi campus taking centre stage in the paddock. This year, six Audi R8 LMS GT3 race cars are entered in the headline race, along with two Audi R8 LMS GT4s and a pair of Audi RS 3 LMS race cars. Joining Giti Tire Motorsport by WS Racing in the SP8 class for GT4 machinery is Car Collection Motorsport with the #72 Audi R8 LMS GT4 squad of Olivier Baharian, Thierry Blaise, Guillaume Roman and Mathieu Sentis.
The Nürburgring 24 Hours begins at 15:30 (UTC+2) on Saturday, June 22.
