AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports has returned to their home turf to compete in the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Featuring America’s Tire 250 running an ORECA 07 LMP2 for the first time in the 2018 IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship.

The decision to switch to the ORECA 07 LMP2 was announced last month and brings a new wave of momentum to the American team with memories of many victories from years prior. Drivers Gustavo Yacaman and Sebastian Saavedra will have their first chance to become acquainted with their new #52 AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports machine tomorrow with two one-hour-long practice sessions, one at 1:55 p.m. PST and a second session at 6:15 p.m. Saturday will bring one final practice session at 11:30 a.m. before qualifying runs from 4:35-4:50 p.m.

There will be a warm-up on race day at 12:20 p.m. but the green flag of the America’s Tire 250 won’t wave until 5:05 p.m. where the 13 prototype cars and 35 entries in total will go head to head for the podium. Driver – Sebastian Saavedra

“I’m looking forward to what will be a very interesting weekend at Laguna Seca. It’s a new track for me, but we come as a whole team very motivated with the introduction of the ORECA chassis. It’s definitely going to inspire a big push of motivation for us to finish this season on the right foot. I am looking forward to continuing to improve and having everything come together.”

Driver – Gustavo Yacaman

“I’m pretty excited for this weekend. The new ORECA should be a step forward from where we were. I am looking forward to getting it on the track and having a fair shot winning one of these races. I’m very grateful for everyone involved with AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports for making the effort to change the car. Now we have no excuses and it’s time to get it done.”
