The ADAC GT Masters lines up in the 2023 season with a tried-and-tested concept, events attracting big crowds, a prize purse of more than € 570,000, and successfully established sustainable fuel. Six race weekends are scheduled in Germany and Austria, each featuring two races. For the first time for 15 years, the series is back at the Norisring in Nuremberg. The season gets underway from 9th to 11th June with a special event in Hockenheim.
Sustainability gain plays a crucial role in the new ADAC GT Masters season. The ADAC GT Masters lines up for the second year in a row with the innovative fuel Shell Blue Gasoline 98, in which 50% of the components are renewable. Last year, the drivers completed 10,971 laps with the sustainable fuel, making a valuable contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.
ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss: “In 2023, the ADAC GT Masters will start with the same concept that has delighted fans for 16 years now. We will not be pursuing the plans presented in December, which included joint races with the ADAC GT Masters and prototypes. This is in line with the desire of many teams for the ADAC GT Masters to continue unchanged in its current form. However, from a sporting perspective we are sharpening the profile of the series, by making it mandatory to have a Silver or Bronze driver in every car. In doing so, we are ensuring that the ADAC GT Masters remains an attractive platform for ambitious and talented drivers.”
The calendar
The season-opener takes place as part of a special event from 9th to 11th June at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. More information on this will be released shortly. The second race weekend features one of the highlights of the season: the return to the Norisring on the streets of Nuremberg sees the series line up at the first of four DTM events. After the Norisring, the ADAC GT Masters is a guest at one of the biggest motorsport events in Germany: for the first time since 2012, the series starts at the Nürburgring on the same bill as the ADAC Truck Grand Prix. After the summer break, the drivers take on the Sachsenring in September. This is followed by a trip to the mountains: the penultimate round of the season takes the competitors to the current Formula 1 track at the Red Bull Ring. It is then back to the Hockenheimring, together with the DTM, for the finale at the end of October.
The racing format
In the ADAC GT Masters, the cockpit continues to be shared by two drivers. From this year, a Silver or Bronze driver is mandatory in each car. This sees the ADAC GT Masters remain true to its philosophy: to give youngsters the best possible support and offer talented young drivers the opportunity to develop in a professional environment.
Good performances and success are rewarded: in the new season, financial and non-cash prizes totally more than € 570,000 will be up for grabs. As well as the Driver and Team titles, there is also the Pirelli Junior competition for young drivers and the Pirelli Trophy for ambitious gentlemen drivers. Teams can register for the 2023 ADAC GT Masters from 25th January. The deadline for registrations is 1st May.
