1AIM Villorba Corse made a brilliant season debut and the team almost reached the podium in the 4 Hours of Barcelona, first round of the 2021 European Le Mans Series. The Italian team led by Raimondo Amadio took a fourth place with Italian drivers Alessandro Bressan and Damiano Fioravanti and their Greek teammate Andreas Laskaratos on the #18 Ligier JS P320 powered by Nissan of the LMP3 class.
After 1AIM Villorba Corse planned a perfect race strategy, both on track and at the pits, Bressan did an excellent start from the fourth row of the grid and then reached the third position thanks to a couple of great overtaking on the outside. After the first driver change Laskaratos kept the pace fighting for top-5 positions, while Fioravanti finished the job reaching the final result, which represents a concrete support for the team before heading to the next round at the Red Bull Ring next month.
Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal, says: “The weekend was extremely positive. We hit our initial target, which was the top-5, considering that we arrived in Barcelona without any testing, that we did our shakedown here last Monday, that there was an entire team to sharpen and that we had to get the rhythm back in such a competitive series. The team was perfect and we have to thank the guys also for their incredible work in the pits. We are very happy because if this is the starting point we can be confident for the future. Villorba Corse is back and confirmed its competitiveness; the choice not to compete at an international level in 2020 was well-considered and motivated, we were looking forward to this return on track and to succeed in the best possible way”
