The championship-leading Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team aims to return to its winning ways at the first doubleheader of the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross championship at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in Connecticut.

At the last Red Bull Global Rallycross event in Louisville, both Beetle GRCs were quick in the hands of team drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust, but rain turned the Final into a free-for-all, with Speed ending up third and Foust fourth.

The team is aiming for better results in Thompson, where the first doubleheader of the season will see a large number of championship points on offer.

Championship leader Scott Speed will be sporting new colors this weekend in the No. 41 ORAFOL Beetle GRC.  His car will be draped in a special, color-changing wrap from the vinyl graphic manufacturer. “Doubleheaders are always very important for the championship, as you can gain or lose a lot of points depending on how the weekend goes,” said Speed. “It’s cool to have a special new livery on the car to tackle this important stage of the season.”

The Thompson doubleheader marks the third new venue for Red Bull Global Rallycross in three events this season. The .895-mile course will feature portions of both Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s historic oval and road course, and will consist of a larger-than-normal dirt section on the back half of the track.

Foust, who currently sits second in the points standings, hopes the course will suit him and yield his first victory of the year. “By setting pole in Louisville, we proved that we can be the quickest car in the field,” said the driver of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC. “I’m hoping to carry that sort of speed throughout the weekend, and this would be the place to do it with so many points on the line. I’m really looking forward to getting on track!”

Both rounds of the Thompson doubleheader will air LIVE on NBC. Round three of the 2017 Red Bull GRC season will be broadcast Saturday, June 3 at 5:00PM (ET). Round five will air at 5:00PM (ET) on Sunday, June 4.
