Weitzenhof First to Enter 2018 F2000 Championship Series Season

Salem, NH – The first official entry for the seven-weekend 2018 F2000 Championship Series season was filed by Series veteran Dave Weitzenhof. With the Formula Race Promotions season just about two months away from opening at Road Atlanta, April 21-22, the Ohio-based driver is looking forward to building on a strong 2017 season.

“My goal is to win at least one race and finish in the top five in season points,” said Weitzenhof, who made his first start in the F2000 Championship Series in 2007 at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, Ohio.

Weitzenhof is also the oldest driver in the paddock at 75, driving a 1994 Citation, towed by a 1974 Chevrolet van and a 1989-built trailer.

“There are no changes for me besides being a year older, but Steve Lathrop is fabricating a new rear suspension for my 24-year-old race car so we can get power down better and be fast at all tracks, not just those few that up to now had suited my car,” Weitzenhof said.

Why does he keep coming back to the USAC-sanctioned F2000 Championship? “Great competition, single-class racing at tracks I like, and that is combined with management and officials that know how to properly run a series.”

Weitzenhof will be ready at Road Atlanta, in his trademark yellow No. 67  yellow Citation, April 21-22

From there the Series continues to iconic tracks, including Watkins Glen, VIR, Mid-Ohio, Pittsburgh, Summit Point and New Jersey, making up a strong seven-weekend, 14-race 2018 season.
