SPENCER PIGOT
NO. 11 JUNCOS RACING
DALLARA/CHEVROLET/FIRESTONE
FRIDAY, MAY 19 – FAST FIRDAY

Practice 5 Fast Lap:

39.7931 seconds/226.170 mph – 32nd

Combined Results (after 5 days) Fast Lap:

39.7931 seconds/226.170 mph – 32nd

Practice Summary:

Following lightning and rain in the morning, Day 5 of practice for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 started on time at 12:00 noon. Designated “Fast Friday,” because engine manufacturers provide teams with additional horsepower, the day lived up to its name. Spencer Pigot, driving the No. 11 Juncos Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone car, posted his fastest speed of the five days of practice. Unlike the past four days, when the team worked on their race setup, today they trimmed the car in search of speed for tomorrow’s qualifying. Practice was stopped after about an hour when the thunderstorms returned, but cars returned to the track just after 4:00 p.m. Unfortunately, just before 5:00 p.m. while entering Turn No. 2, Pigot made contact with the wall. The impact caused damage to the right side of the car. The team will spend the night making repairs and the car will be ready for qualifying tomorrow. Pigot ran 20 laps today and a total of 195 over the last five days. He posted is fast time on lap 16.

Qualifying Draw:

Juncos Racing owner Ricardo Juncos’ son Leandro drew for Pigot’s qualifying spot and selected 35 for the primary car and 56 for the backup or T car.

Quote:

“I’m not really sure what happened. I entered Turn 2. It had not been an issue for us all week. Before I knew it, I was backwards. We’ll have to go back and look and see what happened. I’m fine. The cars are really safe and it wasn’t that bad a hit. I don’t think the actual chassis is damaged, so we’ll go put some new parts on it and get back out tomorrow.”

SEBASTIAN SAAVEDRA
NO. 17 AFS/JUNCOS RACING
DALLARA/CHEVROLET/FIRESTONE
FRIDAY, MAY 19 – FAST FRIDAY

Practice 5 Fast Lap:

39.7835 seconds/226.224 mph – 31st

Combined Results (after 5 days) Fast Lap:

39.7835 seconds/226.224 mph – 31st

Practice Summary:

Despite massive thunderstorms in the morning and another round of lightning and showers just after 1:00 p.m., Sebastian Saavedra, behind the wheel of the No. 17 AFS/Juncos Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone car, managed to ran a total xx laps today. The team made several changes to the car overnight and Saavedra, who also benefitted from the additional horsepower that engine manufacturers provide for “Fast Friday,” ran for a little over an hour from noon until just after 1:00 p.m. before the second round of storms halted on-track action. After a three hour delay, cars went back on track and by the end of the day Saavedra had topped the 226 mph mark for the first time since practice began on Monday. Saavedra turn 27 laps and a total of 158 overthe last five day. He posted his fast speed on lap 14.

Qualifying Draw:

Juncos Racing owner Ricardo Juncos’ son Leandro drew for Saavedra qualifying spot and selected 48 for the primary car and 1 for the backup or T car.

Quote:

“First of all, I’m very appreciative of the amazing job the whole team did from yesterday to today. We got an amazing amount of speed without any tows, which is exactly what we’re looking for this weekend. Today still was not the day we wanted, still very draggy and we don’t know where that’s coming from. Tonight is going to be another one of those brain nights with the engineers to get more speed from the No. 17 AFS/Juncos Racing car, but we’re getting there. I’m very focused on continuing the good path that we’ve been on so far.”
