12:52 – Jake Hughes will return to the GP3 Series this year after signing a deal to compete for the championship’s dominant force ART Grand Prix.
Hughes competed in the category with then-new team DAMS in 2016, scoring a pair of reversed-grid wins en route to eighth overall in the standings.
Hughes switched to Formula 3 in 2017, taking a single win and fifth in the championship, but will return to GP3 with ART, alongside former F3 rivals Callum Ilott and team-mate Nikita Mazepin.
ART has dominated the category in recent years, guiding Esteban Ocon, Charles Leclerc and George Russell to the last three titles, with its drivers taking 1-2-3-4 in the 2017 standings.
“I’m very proud and excited to be joining a team as successful as ART Grand Prix for a crack at GP3,” he said.
“The team’s performances in the series over the last few years especially, have been extremely impressive.
“So, when the opportunity came about to be able to be jump in one of their cars for 2018 it was impossible to say no.
“I tested for three days with everyone in Abu Dhabi and felt immediately confident in and out of the car.
“The aim is clear when racing for a team like ART, so I cannot wait to get down to the workshop and get going.”
