Roger Griffiths: “Good Progress” Made Through Season So Far

Antonio Felix da Costa was on course for a possible third place finish in Hong Kong and also qualified on the front row at Mexico City last weekend before being shuffled back after his car came in underweight following Super Pole.

“We are pretty happy really as everyone was really down on us at the Valencia test,” Griffiths told e-racing365.

“Then we got to the first race in Hong Kong where Antonio qualified eighth and finished sixth which was good, but then we were competitive in Hong Kong the year before so I didn’t want to get too excited.”

The second race in Hong Kong was where Griffiths believes that a potential podium was lost for da Costa.

“We pitted from the lead after going an extra lap but were in good shape,” he said. “Then we had the issue at the pit stop and emerged down in 14th, it was bloody frustrating.

“If you look at how far we dropped back in the pit stop and how far behind the race winner [Felix Rosenqvist] we were at the end of the race, we would have been on the podium.”

Andretti has scored points in all but one of the five races held so far despite having arguably the most mature technical package on the grid.

“We always felt that we had a reasonably efficient drivetrain, it is just getting the most from it and with some more resources being applied by BMW it has really helped,” explained Griffiths.

“Just having more brains looking at problems and coming up with ideas you know, there has been some good progress.”

Blomqvist “Still Figuring Out” Formula E

Andretti’s new recruit Tom Blomqvist enjoyed a points-scoring debut in Morocco but has since had two frustrating races in Santiago and Mexico City.

Griffiths though believes that the British racer will contribute further to Andretti’s points haul in Season Four.

“Tom is still figuring out Formula E,” he said. “I think that Santiago was an eye opener for him.

“But he now has that street circuit under his belt so going down to Punta del Este should be better for him.”

Griffiths reckons that Blomqvist could have made the Super Pole session in Marrakech had he not glanced the wall on his first ever Formula E qualifying lap.

“Tom clipped the wall and when we looked at his lap delta from his previous 200 kW lap he would have been in Super Pole which again shows that the car has got some performance there,” he explained.
