South African Raoul Hyman will contest this weekend’s (16/17 April) BRDC British Formula 3 Championship round at Brands Hatch with HHC Motorsport, it has been confirmed today (15 April). The 19-year-old has most recently been racing in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, and will now reunite with the Harrogate-based squad which ran him to third overall in the 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship.

Hyman began his motorsport career racing karts in 2008, before becoming the South African National Champion in the Mini Max category the next year. He competed at the Rok World Finals event in 2010, finishing third overall, before graduating to the British Super One Championship the following season. That ultimately led to a third place overall finish in the Junior Rotax category in 2012 before he graduated to single-seaters and BRDC F4 for 2013.

In his rookie year, Hyman scored multiple top-10 finishes and stepped on to the podium four times as he finished seventh overall. He mounted a strong title campaign with HHC Motorsport the next year, scoring four wins and 12 podiums, as he finished third overall and subsequently was named as a BRDC Rising Star for 2015.

Last year he competed in European Formula 3, taking a best result of sixth at Monza, and claimed a top-10 finish at the opening round of the 2016 season held at Paul Ricard earlier this month. He now joins Ben Hingeley and Sisa Ngebulana at champion outfit HHC Motorsport for rounds four, five and six of the 2016 British F3 season at Brands Hatch.

Hyman said: “It’s good to be back and I am very happy to be at Brands Hatch, especially on the Grand Prix circuit. The new car is a lot more powerful than the BRDC F4 car that I drove and it is more similar to what I’m used to racing in FIA European F3. I want to do the best job I can for the team this weekend and we will see as we go on where we are in terms of pace, and then we can start pushing for a result.”

Charlie Kemp, Team Principal of HHC Motorsport, commented: “We thoroughly enjoyed our two years working with Raoul in BRDC Formula 4, culminating in a near title-victory in 2014, and it is great to have him back with us this weekend. He is an extremely quick driver and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in the new BRDC British Formula 3 car.”
