US Formula 4 Champion Cameron Das will join Carlin for the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 season, completing the Surrey-based team’s line-up alongside Enaam Ahmed and James Pull.

Das competed in the 2016 Duo BRDC British F3 Autumn Trophy at Snetterton with Carlin, finishing seventh overall with a best result of fifth as he made his European racing debut.

The 16-year-old has enjoyed remarkable success in his short motorsport career thus far, with Das only taking up racing in March 2015. After a handful of karting outings, the American moved into the Bertil Roos Racing Series, winning one race, before tackling a number of other championships including F1600, F2000, Formula Lites and Formula Atlantic as he gained a wealth of single-seater experience throughout the year.

Das stepped up to compete in the inaugural F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda for 2016 and stormed to the title, taking nine wins, 10 podiums and six pole positions as he obliterated the opposition. Das’ performance was all the more impressive given that he won the final eight races of the year in a row to seal the crown.

Das said: “British Formula 3 feels like the natural next step in my racing development. I’ve already had a chance to see Carlin in action and I couldn’t be more excited to spend the 2017 season with them. I really appreciate the support from my sponsor Autobahn Indoor Speedway and other partners for allowing me to embark on this incredible opportunity. I cannot wait for the first race weekend.”

Racing Director Trevor Carlin added: “It’s great news to have Cameron joining us for the 2017 season. His stats speak for themselves; it takes a lot for a driver to dominate any part of the season in the way that Cameron did with US Formula 4 last year, both physically and mentally, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the team. He has already been testing with us and working well with his teammates (James Pull and Enaam Ahmed) so we’re certainly looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together in 2017.”

The 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on Easter Weekend (15-17 April).
