WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Alessandro Balzan (Italy) took the first laps in the team’s all-new No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 car at the Ferrari test track in Firoano, Italy this past week.
Taking the opportunity to get their first taste behind the wheel of the new Ferrari, the WeatherTech Racing trio were happy to exercise the 488 GT3 before it was boxed up and sent to the Scuderia Corsa shops in California in preparation for the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
“Usually we like to get a test on a new car with the entire team at Daytona before the Roar Before the 24,” said MacNeil. “We just couldn’t get the car in time, so we went over and each had the opportunity to put a few laps on the WeatherTech Ferrari before it was shipped. The laps certainly instilled some excitement for the upcoming season.”
The WeatherTech Racing driver line-up for the Rolex 24 at Daytona also includes Jeff Segal (Miami, Fla.), but he was unable to attend the test in Italy last week.
The team will head to Daytona International Speedway January 5-7 for the traditional Roar Before the 24 test in preparation for the Rolex 24 at Daytona to run January 27-28.
