NASCAR Announces 2018 XFINITY Rules
The package used this year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will now include Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR announced the rules for the XFINITY Series in 2018 that will include the expansion of the package used this year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to include Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway.
The package made its debut in the Lilly Diabetes 250 and featured a race record 16 lead changes among eight drivers. Rookie William Byron took the win in that race with a margin of victory of 0.108 seconds over Paul Menard.
The Indy package used a taller rear spoiler, restrictor plate (7/8th-inch) and aero ducts.
Aerodynamic-Technical highlights for 2018 include:
– Flange-fit composite body optional at all tracks except superspeedways
– Common flat splitter
– Allow use of Monster Energy Series common radiator
– Reduction of brake cooling hoses and fans
– Single transmission at all tracks except road courses
– Four-inch splitter height to align with rules at other XFINITY Series tracks
Safety announcements include:
– Mandatory rollout of Enhanced Vehicle Chassis delayed until 2019
– All new chassis required to certify with EVC effective Nov. 20, 2017
– Incident Data Recorder to be powered by vehicle power to improve fidelity of pre-crash data
