Blake Koch Throws Back To DW & Junior
WELCOME, N.C. — Blake Koch’s No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet Camaro will honor NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Darrell Waltrip and his 1985 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship-winning car for the Sept. 2 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
Waltrip’s iconic No. 11 red and white machine captured three wins, 18 top-five finishes, 21 top-10 results and four pole awards en route to the 1985 championship.
“Honoring Darrell (Waltrip) again this year seemed like a no-brainer after the reception last year’s scheme received in the industry,” said team owner Matt Kaulig. “We’re honored that Darrell is on board with us running another one of his paint schemes and can’t wait to see our No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevy on track in a few weeks.”
The paint scheme is a duplicate of the Budweiser No. 11, which Waltrip drove for team owner Junior Johnson.
Waltrip, a three-time Cup Series champion, earned a total of 84 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series wins and 13 NASCAR XFINTY Series win over his expansive NASCAR career. The Owensboro, K.Y. native collected five wins, 18 top-five and 23 top-10 finishes in 55 starts at Darlington. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012.
“I can’t thank Kaulig Racing enough for wanting to run of my cars again this year,” said Waltrip. “This one is special because I drove it to a championship and I hope Blake can, too.”
Darlington Raceway’s 2016 throwback campaign featured a celebration of the years 1975-’84. Kaulig Racing’s No. 11 Camaro carried Waltrip’s 1981-’82 green and white scheme to mimic the No. 11 Mountain Dew Buick Regal.
