Target Ending Sponsorship Of Larson & Ganassi
CONCORD, N.C. — According to a report from Sports Business Daily, Target will not return as primary sponsor of Kyle Larson and Chip Ganassi Racing next season.
Target withdrew as sponsor of Ganassi’s Verizon IndyCar Series program at the end of last season after being involved with the team for more than 25 years. Target began its affiliation with Ganassi’s NASCAR program in 2002.
The change comes as 24-year-old Larson has begun to emerge as a top NASCAR star. He’s currently second in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings and has won three times with the series during the last 12 months.
The departure of Target creates a sponsorship void on Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet. Target, which decreased its sponsorship package on Larson’s car this year, was set to appear as the primary partner on Larson’s car in at least 26 races this year. Target also shared placement on the car with several vendor partners, including Energizer, Coca-Cola, Cottonelle and Banana Boat.
CreditOne joined the team this year to sponsor Larson’s car in at least five events and could expand its role with the team with Target’s departure.
