Former Cup Team Owner Harry Scott Jr., 51
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Harry Scott Jr., the former owner of HScott Motorsports in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, died Wednesday. He was 51 years old.
“We are shocked and saddened to confirm that Harry Scott, Jr., age 51, passed away yesterday, August 2, 2017,” Scott’s family said in a statement. “Harry will be remembered as a loving family man and successful business owner. We ask that everyone please keep Harry’s smile, generosity and essential kindness in your thoughts and prayers. Details about funeral services will be announced when they are finalized.”
Scott entered the NASCAR world in 2009 as a sponsor of Braun Racing with his company AccuDoc Solutions. The native of Raleigh, N.C., later moved into the ownership side of NASCAR, first partnering with Todd Braun and driver Brian Scott.
He later teamed up with Scott Turner in 2013 to form Turner Scott Motorsports. The team won the 2013 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship with driver Dylan Kwasniewski while also competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series.
In 2013 he formed his own team, HScott Motorsports, and hired Justin Allgaier to drive for him in the NASCAR Cup Series on a part-time basis. He purchased Phoenix Racing from James Finch and expanded to the full Cup Series schedule in 2014.
Allgaier and the No. 51 team finished 29th in the Cup Series standings in 2014 and HScott Motorsports expanded to two cars in 2015 with Michael Annett joining the team. Allgaier was replaced by Clint Bowyer in 2016, but after a 27th-place finish in the Cup Series standings Scott opted to shut down the team.
