Larson’s Crew Chief Johnston Fined $75,000
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chad Johnston, crew chief for former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point leader Kyle Larson has been fined $75,000 and suspended for three races by NASCAR.
In addition, the Chip Ganassi Racing team was assessed the loss of 35 owner and driver points, pushing Martin Truex to the top of the standings with Larson now 34 points behind.
Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet was found to have a rear-brake cooling assembly that did not meet the rules, making Larson’s second-place finish encumbered by NASCAR rules following Saturday’s race at Kentucky Speedway.
Chip Ganassi Racing officials said they will “accept the penalty and move forward.”
NASCAR also fined Adam Stevens, crew chief for Kyle Busch, $10,000 after an unsecured lug nut was found during post-race inspection.
