Chase Elliott figures to get that first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory someday, but it wasn’t Sunday at ISM Raceway in the TicketGuardian 500. However, it was another close call for Elliott, who finished third in his best showing of the young season.
Elliott battled eventual race-winner Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch to the finish, and his No. 9 Chevrolet proved to be one of the best cars of the day. But it wasn’t enough for Elliott, who rebounded from a couple of pit stops where he lost eight or more spots each time.

Harvick passed Elliott for third place in the final stage, but ultimately it turned out to be the winning move when the two cars ahead had to come to pit road. After that, Harvick put some space between himself and the No. 9, as well as the No. 18, to drive away for his ninth career win at ISM Raceway.
It was Harvick’s third straight win of the season, the 24th time in Monster Energy Series that a winning streak of three or more has happened.
