Lamborghini took at last its first win of the season, as the Huracán of Ombra Racing, entrusted to Damiano Fioravanti and Andrea Rizzoli won Race 1 at Barcelona, benefitting from the 5-second penalty (for incorrect position at the start) inflicted to the car crossing the line in first, the other Huracán of Imperiale Racing of Breukers-Agostini. Giovanni Venturini-Jeroen Mul, the leading pair of Imperiale, took second, but are definitely out of the race for the title.
Vettel was summoned to the stewards after FP1 as he was alleged to have failed to slow down sufficiently for red flags, which were caused by Charles Leclerc, his Ferrari team-mate next season.
The official qualifying for the AUTOPOLIS GT 300 km, Round 7 of the 2018 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, was held at the AUTOPOLIS circuit (lap = 4,674 m) in Oita Pref. on October 20. In the GT500 class, the No. 8 ARTA NSX-GT driven by Tomoki Nojiri and Takuya Izawa ran a course record to win pole position for the second time this season following the one at Round 3 at Suzuka. Nissan e.dams has completed its preseason testing at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain as it prepares for its season five debut in the ABB FIA Formula E championship.
The ruling said: “The Stewards found that Vettel did, in fact, fail to stay above the minimum time set by the FIA ECU in marshalling sectors 6 and 7. As the regulation states, Art. 31.6 was added this year to ensure that drivers reduce speed significantly during a red flag. Breach of this regulation is seen to be an extremely serious matter. To be consistent with previous decisions on similar incidents this year, the Stewards assessed the penalty specified above.”
An intense week draws to a successful close. As on Tuesday and Wednesday, the fastest time on the third, and final, day of testing in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship went to a BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver. Alexander Sims (GBR), at the wheel of the #27 BMW iFE.18, was the fastest of all drivers at Valencia (ESP) on Friday, setting a time of 1:17.402 minutes. His team-mate António Félix da Costa (POR) remained the fastest driver of the test after setting a time of 1:16.977 on Wednesday. Over the course of the three test days at “Circuit Ricardo Tormo”, the BMW i Andretti Motorsport duo completed a total of 435 laps.
