The Pirelli World Challenge SprintX Championship competitors travelled directly from Canada to Lime Rock Park in Connecticut for rounds four and five to run this weekend, May 26-27.
Jade Buford of Brentwood, Tenn., recorded his second straight GTS victory at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park with a convincing 7.24-second win Sunday in the No. 45 Racer’s Edge SIN R1 GT4 at the Pirelli World Challenge Victoria Day Speedfest.
Several of the top qualifiers in the TC division made the decision to go to Pirelli treaded rain tires before the start of the 40-minute sprint event at the legendary 2.458-mile, 10-turn road circuit northeast of Toronto including Round 3 winner and Round 4 pole winner Paul Holton.
After failing to record a qualifying lap Friday due to a mechanical issue, Cooper, the 27-year-old driver from Syosset, N.Y., started 22nd in the 32-driver field Saturday and charged his way through the SprintX lineup in the No. 8 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R. sports car before a full course yellow period appeared on lap 24.
Young Jade Buford returned to the Pirelli World Challenge this weekend in the GTS division and continued his success rate with another 50-minute sprint race victory in the No. 45 Racer’s Edge SIN R1 GT4 car at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Saturday in Round 5.
Sports car star Patrick Long of Manhattan Beach, Calif., continued his dominance of the legendary Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Friday by driving the No. 58 Wright Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R to a new qualifying record, breaking the two-year standing record of Johnny O’Connell, in the Pirelli World Challenge Victoria Day Speedfest.
