THE PORSCHE LMDh PROTOTYPE ENTERS ACTIVE TEST PHASE

Starting with the 2023 season, the new LMDh prototype from Porsche will fight for overall victory in the world’s greatest endurance races including Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring. The vehicle will be fielded in the FIA WEC World Endurance Championship and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship under the team name Porsche Penske Motorsport. Now, the intensive test programme to prepare for the race debut in January 2023 has started. This premiere will take place at the traditional opening round of the IMSA series – the 24 Hours of Daytona. In selecting the combustion engine to complement the standard hybrid elements, as stipulated by the regulations, Porsche opted for a large-capacity twin-turbo V8 unit. The powerful engine is designed to run on renewable fuels, which means a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. In the race, the system output of the hybrid drive reaches around 500 kW (680 PS).

SEVEN PORSCHE CUSTOMER TEAMS FIGHT FOR CLASS WINS AT DAYTONA

Porsche customer teams head to the opening round of the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with big ambitions. A total of seven Porsche 911 GT3 R will line up on the grid to contest the tradition-steeped 24 Hours of Daytona. At the official test runs, the so-called “Roar Before the 24” last weekend, the teams and Porsche engineers came up with a good setup and achieved promising grid positions for the 500+PS vehicles. Consequently, expectations are high for the endurance classic in the US state of Florida.

BMW M MOTORSPORT CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF BMW M AND THE IMSA RACE DEBUT OF THE M4 GT3 AT DAYTONA

For BMW M Motorsport and BMW of North America, this weekend’s Rolex 24 At Daytona (USA) represents one of the highlights of the season, even this early in the year. The new BMW M4 GT3 is set to make its debut at the endurance classic in Florida. BMW M Team RLL and Turner Motorsport were in action last weekend at the test and qualifying event, Roar Before the 24, where they secured their start positions for the 24-hour race. The big race is the perfect stage on which to mark the 50-year anniversary of BMW M GmbH, which will celebrate the occasion with a top-class programme both on and off the track.

WRIGHT MOTORSPORTS SETS SIGHTS ON ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA

After winning four IMSA championships last November at Petit Le Mans, Ohio-based race team Wright Motorsports is eager to get the 2022 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship started this week with the first race of the year: The 60th Rolex 24 at Daytona. The No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, the latest Michelin Endurance Cup Champion, will be one of 61 cars competing in the 24-hour endurance race, a capacity field for the iconic sports car racing event. Reigning Michelin Pilot Challenge champions Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen will be joined by last season’s GTD champion Zacharie Robichon and Porsche factory driver Richard Lietz.

ALLY CADILLAC TO START THIRD IN THE 60th ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA

Ally Cadillac drivers Jimmie Johnson (El Cajon, Calif.), Kamui Kobayashi (Japan), Mike Rockenfeller (Germany), and José María López (Argentina) will start third in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s 60th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona Jan. 26-30. The No. 48 Ally Cadillac will also compete in series’ four Endurance Cup Championship races this season starting with the Rolex 24.

PIT STOPS, RACE DIRECTOR AND TEAM ORDERS: THESE ARE ARE THE KEY CHANGES IN THE 2022 DTM

A bit over three months prior to the season opener, DTM is noticeably on the rise. For the second year to adapted technical regulations, the organisation ITR is happy with a large field of at least 25 GT3 race cars. In 2021, 19 cars were entered for the full season. “Compared to last year, DTM is in a considerably stronger position. Of course, we are very happy with that,” Frederic Elsner said talking to journalists. The ITR’s director event & operations pointed out some changes in the regulations that will particularly provide more suspense and surprising moments for the fans. The 2022 DTM will be run at eight weekends with one race each both on Saturday and Sunday. The season gets underway at Portimão in Portugal from 30 April until 1 May. The races start at 1.30pm CET.

ERA MOTORSPORT HUNGRY FOR REPEAT ROLEX 24 WIN

With the Roar Before the 24 complete, all eyes at Era Motorsport are focused forward on this week’s main event: the 60th Rolex 24 At Daytona. The 2021 LMP2 class winners are looking for a repeat win in the No. 18 Oreca, driven by Dwight Merriman, Ryan Dalziel, Kyle Tilley, and Paul-Loup Chatin. Era Motorsport is one of three cars on the 2022 entry list where all drivers hold wins at the famed event.

PORSCHE CUSTOMER TEAM FRONT ROW QUALIFIER FOR ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA

The grid is set for the 60th Running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. After finishing in the runner-up position in Sunday’s 100-minute qualifying race, the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R race car will start in second-place of the 13-car GTD Pro class on the 2.56-mile, 12-turn road course. The driver combination of Julien Andlauer (France) and Alessio Picariello (Belgium) will be joined by Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Illinois) and Matteo Cairoli (Italy) in the new all-pro category on race day. The No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche shared by Jan Heylen (Belgium) and Ryan Hardwick (Atlanta, Georgia) was the top GTD class finisher for the German sports car manufacturer finishing in third-place Sunday. The duo will be teamed with Porsche factory driver Richard Lietz (Austria) and 2021 GTD Champion Zacharie Robichon (Canada) for the January 29 – 30 Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway.

ASTON MARTIN TEAMS FIELD STRONGEST DAYTONA LINE-UP IN BID FOR 2022 ROLEX 24 HOURS GLORY

Aston Martin heads into this weekend’s Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona with its partner teams fielding arguably the strongest ever assault on the US endurance classic by the luxury British sportscar brand. The race will feature four competitive Vantage GT3 line-ups – the most ever – spread across both classes of IMSA’s revamped GTD division, and each will include works Aston Martin Racing drivers in crews capable of challenging for victory.
