JENS MARQUARDT: “WE MADE BMW MOTORSPORT HISTORY THIS YEAR”

There is no longer any such thing as a winter break in modern motor racing – not if you have such an exciting portfolio of activity as BMW Motorsport. In the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, BMW i Andretti Motorsport celebrated a thrilling debut with victory in Ad Diriyah (KSA) in mid-December, while the first highlights of the BMW M Motorsport programme are already scheduled for the new year. In this interview, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt reviews 2018 and looks forward to the new season to explain why BMW i Motorsport and BMW M Motorsport are a perfect match.

ABSOLUTE RACING CONFIRMS AUDI ENTRIES FOR 2019 BLANCPAIN GT WORLD CHALLENGE ASIA

The long-time partnership between Audi Sport customer racing Asia and multiple championship-winning team Absolute Racing is set to strengthen further in 2019 with confirmation of a two-car entry in the newly-named Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia. One of two Audi R8 LMS GT3s will be piloted by China’s most successful circuit driver to-date and Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup driver mentor Cheng Congfu, and one of the Cup’s standout drivers this season, Sun Jingzu, in what promises to be a powerful Pro-Am pairing. 

“A BIT LIKE JIMI HENDRIX”: VIRTUOSO PERFORMANCE FROM ALESSANDRO ZANARDI BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE BMW M8 GTE

The BMW M Motorsport engineers compare him to a drummer, while Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) himself says: “I feel a bit like Jimi Hendrix.” The manner in which the BMW works driver controls the BMW M8 GTE that he will drive during the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA) in January is comparable to a virtuoso performance. Together with BMW M Motorsport, Zanardi has developed a special system that allows him to accelerate with a throttle ring on the steering wheel but also allows him to brake by hand, by using a brake lever.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS SIGNS MCMURRY AND AUBRY FOR 2019 SEASON

PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports is proud to announce today that it has signed two of the hottest young stars in the sportscars world to fight for the 2019 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship.  Matt McMurry and Gabriel Aubry will pilot the #52 Oreca 07 LMP2 during the 2019 season and will hit the track for the first time as new teammates at the Roar before the 24, in preparation for the Rolex 24 at Daytona where they will be joined by two additional drivers who will be announced in the near future.

WILL STEVENS REMAINS WITH PANIS-BARTHEZ COMPETITION IN 2019

Will Stevens will once again carry the Panis-Barthez Competition colours in the 2019 ELMS program and for the next 24 Hours of Le Mans – subject to confirmation by the ACO. The 27-year-old Briton, under Triple A management – led by Didier Coton-, has shown all his talent on track throughout the past season by climbing twice on the podium and signing a pole position on the wet in Spa. Former Formula 1 driver and the french team shared a common desire to extend their collaboration. Will is joining the latest newcomer Rene Binder in the Ligier JS P217 # 23. The third driver of the line-up will be announced in due course.
