GAMBLE ON FORM AS PORSCHE CARRERA CUP GB RETURNS TO THRUXTON

George Gamble (Amigos Redline Racing) set the fastest time of the day during Friday’s practice sessions at Thruxton. Returning to the Hampshire circuit for the first time since 2014, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB endured a mixture of dry and wet conditions which saw Gamble head the morning’s dry session, and Lewis Plato (Motorbase Performance) top a wet afternoon practice. Current championship leader 18-year-old Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior Dan Harper (JTR) set the second quickest time of the day – just 0.303 seconds off that of Gamble.

PORSCHE ONE-TWO IN FIRST ADAC GT MASTERS PRACTICE SESSION AT THE NURBURGRING

Porsche dominated the first free practice of the ADAC GT Masters weekend at the Nürburgring. Matteo Cairoli (23, ITA, Küs Team75 Bernhard) set the fastest time of the one-hour session in his 911 GT R ahead of Thomas Preining (21, AUT, Precote Herberth Motorsport) in a Porsche fielded by a rival outfit. In third place was Maro Engel (33, Monte Carlo, Toksport WRT) in the best of the Mercedes-AMG contingent. SPORT1 will be showing the two races on the famous circuit in the Eifel hills live and in full length. Saturday’s race starts at 14:45 and Sunday’s at 13:05 CEST.

CRAFT-BAMBOO RACING CONFIRMS STAR LINE-UP FOR SUZUKA 10 HOURS

Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Racing heads to the 2019 Suzuka 10 Hours with an all-star line-up consisting of Mercedes-AMG Factory Drivers Maximilian Götz (GER), Luca Stolz (GER) and Yelmer Buurman (NED), all sharing the wheel of the #77 Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. Maximilian Götz, who is also currently leading the Intercontinental GT Challenge Drivers Championship, has unfinished business at this event after finishing runner-up in the 2018 edition of the race. The three have all had experience of the fast and flowing Suzuka circuit, and confidence is high as the preparations ramp up.

FERRARI ANNOUNCE LMGTE PRO CLASS CREWS FOR THE FIA WEC SEASON

The Ferrari crews entered in the LMGTE Pro class have officially been announced, a few weeks from the start of Season 8 of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The AF Corse car number 51 will be entrusted to Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado. After winning the drivers’ and team title in 2017 and following their recent triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2019, along with Daniel Serra, the Italian-British crew is aiming for a leading role.

ADAC GT MASTERS JUNIOR PODIUM AND POINTS GALORE FOR BWT MUCKE MOTORSPORT AT ZANDVOORT

After a summer break of more than two months, the ADAC GT Masters teams were back in action, this time (9th – 11th August) at Circuit Zandvoort. BWT Mücke Motorsport were there as the second half of the season got underway at the historic track on the Dutch North Sea coast. The squad consisted of Jeffrey Schmidt and Christopher Haase in the number 25 BWT Audi R8 LMS, Markus Winkelhock and Mike David Ortmann in the number 24 kfzteile24 Audi R8 LMS and Nikolaj Rogivue in the number 26 BWT Audi R8 LMS, this time with a replacement co-driver in the shape of Frédéric Vervisch. The Belgian had already stepped in for regular driver Stefan Mücke at the Red Bull Ring earlier this season and was once again substituting for Stefan who joined his father and team boss Peter Mücke for the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.

THREE PORSCHE RACE CARS MAKE TRACK TIME FOR REAL ENTHUSIASTS

Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) offers customers something they cannot get anywhere else: a floor-to-ceiling motorsport career. Known as the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid, the German marque offers a path, and race car platform, to move from novice enthusiast to professional driver within the Porsche family motorsport products. At the foundation of the structured pathway is a trio of track cars directly derived from Porsche road cars. Known as Clubsport models, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, its dramatic retro platform mate the 935-19 and the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport offer drivers a car in which to grow from track day lapping to full IMSA and SRO America competition.

ADAC GT MASTERS TITLE FIGHT GOES INTO NEXT ROUND AT THE NURBURGRING

These are busy times in the ADAC GT Masters. Just one week after Zandvoort, the teams are due to line up again next weekend (16th – 18th August) at the Nürburgring. With only three fixtures remaining on the calendar, the title fight is entering a decisive phase. The contestants heading for the circuit in the Eifel will be looking to close the gap on ‘half-time champions’ Patric Niederhauser (27, CH) and Kelvin van der Linde (23, ZA, both HCB-Rutronik Racing).

McLAREN 720S GT3 TAKES VICTORY ON CHINA GT CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT

The McLaren 720S GT3 scored victory on the debut race weekend in the China GT championship with Customer Racing outfit, The Winning Team. Chinese best-selling author, singer and star rally driver Han Han was joined by McLaren Factory Driver Joe Osborne and, despite difficult racing conditions, the pair claimed a second place during the first race of the weekend at the new Shougang GT Circuit in Qinhuangdao, before converting pole position to a hard-fought race win during the weekend’s second event.

ADAC GT MASTERS AUDI ONE-TWO AT ZANDVOORT

The Audi pairing of Ricardo Feller (19, CH) and Dries Vanthoor (21, BEL, both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) put in a superb performance to pull off a maiden ADAC GT Masters victory in Sunday’s race at Zandvoort, crossing the line just ahead of their team-mates Max Hofer (20, AUT) and Christopher Mies (30, GER). Partnered by Philip Ellis (26, GB) in a Mercedes-AMG, series newcomer Fabian Vettel (20, GER, Mann-Filter Team HTP), the brother of four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, made his first podium appearance in the Super Sports Car League. “Mega!” said race winner Feller. “I’ve had a three-year wait to get onto the top rung of the podium. To have accomplished this at long last is an amazing feeling. I’m just incredibly happy.”

BORTOLOTTI AND ENGLEHART STORM TO FIRST ADAC GT MASTERS WIN OF 2019 FOR LAMBORGHINI

There was high drama on the Dutch North Sea coast as the seventh ADAC GT Masters race of the season at Zandvoort was won by the narrow margin of 0.365 seconds. In a thrilling race, Mirko Bortolotti (29, ITA) and Christian Engelhart (32, GER, both Orange1 by GRT Grasser) in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo beat off a strong challenge from Porsche drivers Timo Bernhard (38, GER) and Klaus Bachler (27, AUT, both Küs Team75 Bernhard). Third place went to Michele Beretta (24, ITA) and Marco Mapelli (32, ITA) in another Orange1 by GRT Grasser Lamborghini. “We’ve worked hard for this,” said Bortolotti. “It feels really good to win here. It was about time that we returned to winning ways.”
