PORSCHE CARRERA CUP GB SUPPORTS WEC FOR BLUE RIBAND WEEKEND

Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK, steps onto the international stage once again, this time at Silverstone. Rounds eleven and twelve will support of the opening race of the 2019 / 2020 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season – the 4 Hours of Silverstone – which also sees the racing debut of the 2019 911 RSR. Competing in front of an international audience of teams, drivers and spectators, Porsche Carrera Cup GB’s grid of mechanically identical 485 hp ‘Type 991’ Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars will race on the full 3.7-mile Grand Prix circuit for the first time since 2016, when the championship last supported WEC.

PORSCHE KEEN TO EXTEND IMSA LEAD AT VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

The Virginia International Raceway hosts round nine of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this coming weekend (23-25 August). The Porsche GT Team travels to the storied racetrack as the leader of the manufacturer and driver classifications. With five victories as well as podium finishes at every IMSA race so far this season, the works driver crews, Earl Bamber (New Zealand) and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) in the No. 912 car, as well as Patrick Pilet (France) and Nick Tandy (Great Britain) in the No. 911 vehicle, currently rank first and second respectively in the GTLM class. Porsche leads the manufacturers’ classification with a 21-point advantage. 

PORSCHE GB LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR 2020/2021 JUNIOR DRIVER

Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK, has commenced its search for the next promising young talent in motorsport – one of the most unique and valuable opportunities in the sport. Offering a prize unrivalled in UK motorsport, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior Programme – running since 2008 and previously known as the Porsche GB Scholarship – seeks to identify and nurture young racing talent, supporting an entry into the Porsche Motorsport pyramid which can see drivers progress all the way to the international stage. Underlining the importance of the opportunity for career development is the current roster of Porsche factory drivers – around two-thirds of which is made up of former Juniors.

NURBURGRING WEEKEND ENDS ON A MINI HIGH FOR BWT MUCKE MOTORSPORT

Busy time of the year: Just one week after Zandvoort, BWT Mücke Motorsport was back in ADAC GT Masters action at the Nürburgring. The circuit set amid the rolling hills of the Eifel had been the scene of wins and podiums in the Super Sports Car League for the team in previous seasons, and the Berlin based outfit was eager to build on its solid record there. The driver pairings tasked with getting the results were Stefan Mücke and Nikolaj Rogivue in the number 26 BWT Audi R8 LMS, Jeffrey Schmidt and Christopher Haase in the number 25 Audi R8 LMS, and Mike David Ortmann and Markus Winkelhock in the number 24 kfzteile24 Audi R8 LMS..

LAMBORGHINI DOMINANT IN THE ADAC GT MASTERS AT THE NURBURGRING

The Lamborghini was in a class of its own in the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring this weekend. After Christian Engelhart (32, GER) and Mirko Bortolotti (29, ITA) had dominated Saturday’s race, their team-mates Rolf Ineichen (41, CH) and Franck Perera (35, FRA) repeated the feat on Sunday. The runner-up spot in Race 2 went to Porsche duo Timo Bernhard (38, GER) and Klaus Bachler (28, AUT, both Küs Team75 Bernhard) for the second time this season. They finished narrowly ahead of championship leaders Patric Niederhauser (27, CH) and Kelvin van der Linde (23, ZA, both HCB-Rutronik Racing) in the best of the Audi R8 LMS contingent. “Wow, what a great weekend for our team,” said a delighted first-time winner Perera. “Yesterday, it was our team-mates who claimed pole position and victory, and today we’ve managed to do the same. Simply mega!”

DOUBLE PORSCHE CARRERA GB CUP VICTORY FOR HARPER AT THRUXTON

The Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK, commenced the second half of its 2019 season with a pair of gripping races at Thruxton. A rain-affected Round Nine delivered a race of two halves as drivers chose opposing tyre strategies on a drying track. Round Ten saw 18-year-old Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior Dan Harper (JTR) become the first driver to take two victories in a weekend since the introduction of a reverse grid Race Two at the start of 2018.

PORSCHE GB JUNIOR HARPER TAKES FOURTH CARRERA CUP GB POLE 2019

18-year-old Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior Dan Harper (JTR) clinched his fourth pole position of the 2019 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season at Thruxton. The current championship leader mounted a late challenge for pole fending off rivals Josh Webster (Team Parker Racing) and George Gamble (Amigos Redline Racing) who will start round nine in P2 and P3 respectively. Porsche GB Junior Harper’s closest championship rival, Lewis Plato (Motorbase Performance), will start tomorrow’s race from the second row of the grid in P4.

BORTOLOTTI AND ENGELHART WITH SECOND WIN OF THE ADAC GT MASTERS SEASON AT THE NURBURGRING

Pole-sitters Mirko Bortolotti (29, ITA) and Christian Engelhart (32, GER, both Orange1 by GRT Grasser) cruised to a second win of the season in Saturday’s ADAC GT Masters race at the Nürburgring. Luca Stolz (24, GER) and Maro Engel (33, MON, both Toksport WRT) finished second in a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Joining the podium party in P3 were current championship leaders Patric Niederhauser (27, CH) and Kelvin van der Linde (23, ZA, both HCB-Rutronik Racing) in the best of the Audi R8 LMS contingent. “In recent years, the Nürburgring has been a problematic track for us,” said Engelhart. “But now, with the new car, it seems to suit us a lot better. After the win at Zandvoort, it’s great to get another here.”

RISING SUSPENSE FOR AUDI SPORT IN JAPAN

The Intercontinental GT Challenge that has been held since 2016 is as thrilling as never before: three different winners in the first three rounds, plenty of variety in the point-rankings, an intensifying title race, and Audi Sport in contention at the front. In the 10 Hours of Suzuka on August 25, the brand and its drivers intend to make the next move in the crucial phase of battling for the title.
