BATHURST 12 HOUR QUALIFYING MARKED BY HIGHS AND LOWS FOR R-MOTORSPORT

R-Motorsport’s qualifying at Bathurst was a roller-coaster of disappointment tinged with optimism. While Jake Dennis, Scott Dixon and Rick Kelly made it through into the pole shootout for the top ten starting positions, their team-mates’ race weekend ended prematurely. 25-year-old Marvin Kirchhöfer was involved in an accident in Q2 which badly damaged the team’s #62 Aston Martin Vantage GT3. He was uninjured but could not continue, and Luca Ghiotto and Olli Caldwell were left on the sidelines because of the damage.

MATT CAMPBELL SECURES FIRST POLE POSITION FOR PORSCHE AT BATHURST

An ideal qualifying for the Porsche customer team Absolute Racing at the opening round of this year’s Intercontinental GT Challenge: Porsche works driver Matt Campbell (Australia, No. 911) turned the fastest lap of the day (2:03.554 minutes) in qualifying for the Bathurst 12 Hour, thus handing Porsche its first pole position at the Mount Panorama Circuit. In the identical, 500+hp Porsche 911 GT3 R, Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium, No. 1) secured the fifth grid spot for Earl Bamber Motorsport (EBM) on Saturday.

LIBERATI RETURNS TO BATHURST TARGETING PODIUM

Following the brilliant last year’s debut when he secured the seventh overall position, Edoardo Liberati returns this weekend to Bathurst 12 Hour, first round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. Once more the Rome-based racer will contest the Australian event driving a KCMG-run Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 car, sharing the duties with Swiss Alexandre Imperatori and Brazil’s João Paulo de Oliveira in an all-Pro crew.

ERA MOTORSPORT EARNS PODIUM SUCCESS AT IMSA DEBUT IN DAYTONA

Era Motorsport, the little sports car team that could, raised eyebrows this weekend at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The premier sports car racing series in North America began its 2020 season with the 24 hour long endurance race, and newly formed team Era Motorsport not only persevered, but put on an impressive performance to secure a third place finish in the No. 18 Oreca 07 in the LMP2 prototype class.

FIVE PORSCHE 911 GT3 R AIM FOR A SUCCESSFUL START TO THE IGTC SEASON AT BATHURST

Porsche launches its Title Defence Mission in the Intercontinental GT Challenge at Bathurst, Australia. In 2019, the sports car manufacturer claimed the IGTC titles in the manufacturers’ and drivers’ classifications. The gruelling twelve-hour race (January 31 to February 2) traditionally marks the start of the most important championship for GT3 sports cars. In the race at Mount Panorama, five Porsche 911 GT3 R face strong opposition from vehicles from ten other manufacturers. Last year, Porsche won the long-distance event at Bathurst for the first time in its history thanks to the customer squad EBM (Earl Bamber Motorsport).

THE NEW PORSCHE 911 RSR LOCKS OUT THE FRONT GRID ROW AT US DEBUT

The new Porsche 911 RSR has made an impressive North American debut in qualifying for the 24-hour race at Daytona by claiming positions one and two on the grid. During the 15-minute session on the Daytona International Speedway, Nick Tandy (Great Britain) in the No. 911 vehicle and Belgium’s Laurens Vanthoor in the No. 912 sister car fought a heated duel for the fastest lap time.
