Six FIA World Touring Car Championship drivers were racing on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife for the first time when WTCC Race of Germany took place last weekend. Find out how they fared from left to right.
Esteban Guerrieri: Running with compensation weight for the first time in 2017, Campos Racing’s ace Argentine started the Opening Race on the front row and left Germany with a fifth and an eighth in his privateer Chevrolet.
Aurélien Panis: Gained more vital WTCC experience with P13 and P12 in the two races: “It was not the results expected this weekend but what an amazing feeling to drive on this track,” said the Zengő Motorsport driver.
Yann Ehrlacher: Bounced back from a hefty testing crash on Thursday and a transmission glitch on Friday to net ninth place in both races for RC Motorsport.
Néstor Girolami: Led the Opening Race from pole and was in second place when a puncture sent him crashing out at more than 200kph. The Argentine was unhurt but his Volvo S60 Polestar was too badly damaged for him to make the Main Race grid. “We need to forget this bad luck,” he said.
Ryo Michigami: Slowed by a vibration in the Opening Race, which he finished with a punctured tyre, the factory Honda driver’s frustration was compounded when first-lap contact in the Main Race damaged his Civic’s powersteering and put him out.
Dániel Nagy: Enforced engine change added to the teenager’s tough task but he came away with P14 in the Opening Race, describing the 25.378-kilometre track as “super-natural” afterwards.
