The World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) will kick off the 2016 Championship season this coming weekend, the 2nd and 3rd of April at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. Tiago Monteiro is fully prepared to face the challenge in what will be a key season for the Portuguese racer.
After a lengthy testing and development period with the Honda Civic, Tiago is firmly focused on the team’s objectives and hopes to be consistently in the leading hierarchy at every race to secure his position as a title contender this season.
Paul Ricard will stage the first major challenge; one in which teams and drivers will get the first glimpse of their performance in comparison with their rivals. Tiago is confident ahead of the season opener on a track where he finished on the podium just two years ago. “The team’s work over the winter was very good. We have a more competitive Honda Civic. It is also more adapted to the needs of the championship. I feel we are in a good position and everyone in the team is optimistic, but it will only be after the first race that we will know how we are in comparison to our opponents. We have done our job but we do not know what the others have done,” he explained.
For this first race, Tiago will specifically go “with the usual precautions but determined to get onto the podium for the first race of the season. It would be great if I could get this result,” he concluded.
The races will be broadcasted live on Eurosport this Sunday at 11am and 4 pm.
