Brooksville, Florida based M1 GT Racing is set to embark on their second Pirelli World Challenge event of the 2016 season in Alabama. Looking to build on the momentum of a pair of top five finishes at the Circuit of the Americas in early March, the Audi Sport customer racing (AScr) program will travel to Barber Motorsports Park with driver Walt Bowlin and their Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery / Surgery Centers of America Audi R8 LMS machine.
“We are really excited to get back to the track and put forth what we learned from our event in Texas and the miles of testing that we have completed,” explained M1 GT Technical Director and Director of Business Development Remi Lanteigne. “With a schedule that will see events in 2016 all over the world, it i s always great to go to a spectacular facility like Barber Motorsports Park.” Adding to that, Lanteigne predicts the track layout will suit very well the 2016 Audi R8 LMS as it will take advantage of its great aero and mechanical grip features.
Piloting the M1 GT Racing prepared Audi R8 LMS will be veteran driver Walt Bowlin who has been a fixture within the M1 Racing stable for years. Bowlin comes off a top five finish in the GTA division at the opening round of the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) Championship where he and the team were able to take away important data and experience in their first wheel-to-wheel competition with the new 2016 Audi.
“Our event at Circuit of the Americas was a good one but we are striving for constant improvement in the team, car and of course myself,” explained Bowlin. “The 2016 Audi R8 is a beast of a car and a real treat to drive and I will be doing my best to represent the M1 GT Racing brand. Since I raced at the Barber Motorsports Park facility in 2015 in the older Audi, I know the ins and outs of the track as well as I have been prepping on the team simulator for a couple of weeks. We will be working hard to put M1 GT Racing on the podium.”
Taking place during the IndyCar, Indy Lights, Pro Mazda and USF2000 weekend, M1 GT Racing will take advantage of the Pirelli World Challenge Promoter Test Day on Thursday, April 21st before the first official sessions begin on Friday. With two separate event days, race one will take place Saturday afternoon while race two will commence Sunday morning ahead of the Verizon IndyCar Series.
“We have done a great job in the marketing of M1 GT Racing and the look of the team but we have more to come,” explained Lanteigne. “We have had several developments which will be announced in the very near future. We can’t talk about it quite yet, but we stoked in what the future holds for us and what we can bring to our fans, drivers and marketing partners.”
M1 GT Racing would like to thank all of their 2016 partners and supporters. A special thank you to Audi Sport customer racing, Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery, Surgery Centers of America and Spyder Active Sports Wear.
