For the ifth time in his DTM career, Lucas Auer will be on pole position for a DTM race. In qualifying for the race on Saturday during the Motorsport Festival Lausitz, the Austrian secured himself the best starting grid position with a lap time of 1m16.193s. His fellow Mercedes-AMG driver Robert Wickens will be lining up alongside the Austrian on the front row of the grid. On his fastest lap in the 20 minutes’ qualifying session, the Canadian was 0.105 seconds down on Auer’s time.

With Maxime Martin in third and René Rast in fourth place, BMW and Audi share the positions on the second row of the grid. Hockenheim DTM race winner Timo Glock will be starting from fifth place. Jamie Green and Gary Paffett, who are second and third behind Auer in the drivers’ standings, tied at 26 points, will be starting the third race of the season from twelfth and ninth place respectively.

The Saturday race at the Lausitzring gets underway at 14.45 hrs. ARD is broadcasting live from Lausitz from 14.30 hrs.

POST-QUALIFYING QUOTES

Lucas Auer: “It was a super qualifying with Robert and myself. Now, we have to focus on the race. Thanks to the team, this was a huge mark that we have made. This is already the second track where we are strong over one lap. I am curious to see what the weather will do, what the tyres will be like and whatever else. There are still many question marks. I think we have a thrilling race ahead of us.”

Robert Wickens: “I have been feeling well throughout the weekend so far. The car is great. With second place and my first points of this season, I got this weekend off to a good start. But now, of course, I have to follow up on this in the race.”

Maxime Martin: “I didn’t quite expect this, but, of course, I am very happy. All of us have done a good job to have a good car for qualifying. The race is a different affair, but being able to start up front is better than having to start at the back.”
