For the most part, those days are now in the past. But now and then, there’s a team like the Ohio-based HART program, which reminds us of how it used to be. HART – an acronym for Honda of America Racing Team – consists of a group of Honda engineers who volunteer their time to field race cars.

Motorsports In Action Unites Former GT3 Cup Challenge Drivers for 2018 Effort

After buttoning up its rookie season with a season-finale win at Road Atlanta last year, Motorsports In Action returns to the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge with a nearly identical look for its second year. The Canada-based team is back with two McLaren GT4s, the Nos. 68 and 69, with three of four drivers returning – Jesse Lazare, Kenny Wilden and Rod Randall. It was Lazare, with then-co-driver Chris Green, who brought home the team’s first win in October.

Leading the way in a back-and-forth 15-minute session for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype class was Brazilian driver Felipe Nasr in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R with a best time of 1 minute, 35.806 seconds (133.764 mph). Nasr was first in a top-four sweep for Cadillac, which is looking for its second consecutive Rolex 24 win after taking its debut race last year. » The strong pace shown by Cadillac, which led every session throughout the first two days of the Roar Before The Rolex 24 At Daytona test, carried into Sunday’s inaugural Roar qualifying session. The new-for-2018 qualifying sessions establish the garage and pit locations each team will use during the Rolex 24 At Daytona race weekend on Jan. 25-28. Scott Pruett To Call It A Career After 2018 Rolex 24 At Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida --- Scott Pruett walked into the Daytona International Speedway media center and smiled widely as he looked at the Lexus banner hanging behind the podium displaying three cars he had driven in the Rolex 24 and honoring him for a “storied career in racing” that spanned five decades. Moments later, the 57-year old Pruett smiled again and calmly, thoughtfully, announced his retirement from the sport, revealing he will hang his helmet up after the upcoming Jan. 27-28 Rolex 24 At Daytona – the great sports car endurance race that Pruett has hoisted the overall victory trophy five times in an amazing career that’s spanned five decades. “As an athlete if you’re fortunate enough to have a long and successful career and lucky enough to come to the end on your terms then you are truly blessed, and I truly am,’’ Pruett said. “Today, after 50 years of racing, the 2018 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona will be my last race. “It’s a magical place and I love it and what better way to say goodbye to a sport I love than at this revered place surrounded by my respected peers and diehard fans. So here we go. I’m so excited about the next chapter of my life and getting on with the Rolex 24 here in the next few weeks.’’ Early in Pruett’s diverse and celebrated career, it became clear the question wasn’t what this driver might accomplish, but what wouldn’t he achieve. His is a five-time champion in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with an amazing 60 sports car series wins in addition to claiming victories in the prestigious International Race of Champions (IROC) circuit.

Max Root Receives 2018 IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship

Max Root, a 17-year-old driver from Rancho Santa Fe, California, is the 2018 recipient of the IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Scholarship, which he will use toward a full-season ride in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama season with Wright Motorsports.
