BMW of North America Customer Racing teams and a dozen BMW M4 GT4 and BMW M4 GT3 racing cars as well as five BMW M2 CS Racing cars are entered in the opening rounds of the 2023 SRO season opening weekend at Sonoma Raceway, in Sonoma, California.

After an exciting 2022 race season that saw the battle for the Fanatec GT World Challenge America championship title come down to the final race, Wright Motorsports will return in 2023 for another shot at clinching the top honors. Armed with the new No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R (type 992), drivers Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen will return for a second chance at the Pro/Am class title in the sports car racing series.

This October, the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS series will conclude the 2022 race season with the biggest race of the year: The Indianapolis 8 Hour. Mercedes AMG customer racing team DXDT Racing will be armed with stout lineups, adding Valentin Pierburg and Patrick Assenheimer to the No. 63 Mercedes AMG GT3 and No. 08 Mercedes AMG GT3, respectively. Aiming for the overall win in the Pro class and the win in the Am class, the team will shake up the lineups in both cars, moving David Askew and Scott Smithson to the same car while Dirk Muller and Bryan Sellers race alongside in the sister car.

Andrea Caldarelli was all smiles when he met teammate Michele Beretta in Sebring International Raceway Victory Lane. Following a win that sealed the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS Team Championship for K-PAX Racing, a sweep of the weekend rewarded Caldarelli with a crown of his own. K-PAX Racing earned four podiums in Rounds 11 & 12, on its way to clinch multiple titles ahead of the season finale.

Just a few days after the team’s hard-charging performance at the Grand Prix of Long Beach in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Porsche customer racing team Wright Motorsports continues the April California swing with the start of the SRO America season opener at Sonoma Raceway. Wright Motorsports will contest the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS in the No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R and the GT America powered by AWS in the No. 30 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

Wright Motorsports leads the Pro/Am team championship by 20 points, and after a podium finish at Watkins Glen International last month, drivers Jan Heylen and Fred Poordad are expected to be strong contenders to return to Victory Circle in this weekend’s 90-minute doubleheaders. The duo currently leads in the driver point standings by 58 points and could win their respective championship this weekend. 

BMW Customer Racing teams will open the 2021 SRO America season at Sonoma Raceway, in Northern California, this weekend, March 5 – 7. The 2.385-mile, 12-turn road course in the hills of California’s wine country will host Rounds 1 and 2 of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS as well as the supporting GT America, Pirelli GT4 America, and TC America series.
