Get ready for edge of your seat, white knuckle action as The Racers Group returns to Road America, one of the fastest and most challenging permanent racing circuits in North America. The team is intent on delivering a top performance in this weekend’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Road America. Navigating the circuit’s high speed corners and straights is always a great test of endurance and skill; the TRG Aston Martin #3 V8 Vantage GT4, along with drivers Craig Lyons and Kris Wilson, are certainly up to the task. TRG is always revved up to return to Road America, where the team has a stellar history, achieving multiple wins and podium finishes, across several marques and series over three decades.
Lyons and Wilson are skilled competitors in the Aston Martin and raring to go for this weekend’s Road America 120. Wilson’s racing experience stretches back over two decades; this is his fourth season racing with TRG and his fifth season racing in the Continental Tire series. Craig Lyons is looking to build on the team’s past success at the track. “I’m thrilled to be driving in Conti with Kris as my coach and co-driver in this awesome TRG Aston Martin V8 Vantage,” he says. “I can’t wait to get going on Thursday Morning” Anything is possible at one of the premier tracks in the United States and this is a track that definitely favors the Aston.
TRG is one of the most successful teams in all of sportscar racing, and that track record of achievement certainly extends to Road America, a circuit that is a favorite for both the team and for fans. Most recently, the team had an epic win last year in Pirelli World Challenge SprintX competition, a gritty, come-from-behind second-place the year before in IMSA competition as well as a GTD Pole Position in 2015As well as multiple wins and podiums stretching all the way back to the early 90s.
Team owner and 24 Hours of LeMans and Rolex 24 champion Kevin Buckler is keen to continue the team’s streak at Road America with Lyons and Wilson. “It’s been great having Craig and Kris team up for this year’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series,” Buckler says. “Craig and Kris are an awesome duo. Craig has worked so hard on his driving this past year and it really shows especially with his big win at COTA and an epic drive at Laguna Seca last month. Kris is a definite go-to driver for our team, coming off of a win in our Aston Martin GT3 earlier this year.”
Road America is a very special place for Buckler, who first started racing at the circuit almost 30 years ago. “I had my first-ever track day at Road America in 1988 and I was hooked,” he says. “This place is just steeped in history. Road America is a TRG favorite, and we’ve had multiple poles, podiums – and of course, wins there! We’re looking for a solid qualifying run and overall performance during the race Saturday and this track should suit our Aston Martin well. We are eager to carry our amazing tradition forward. Craig and Chris are ready, the car is ready, the crew is ready. It’s time to go racing!”
