For the first time in his GT4 tenure, Razvan Umbrarescu revisits a track where he already raced before. The 3.9 km circuit in Kent had been hosting races for more than 90 years and 14 Formula One Grand Prix took place here between 1964 and 1986. The full GP layout is currently a FIA Grade 2 track, used for high-profile touring car and GT racing. It requires a good balance through the long corners and a lot of bravery in tackling blind spots. Adding the British weather in the mix, Brands Hatch always guarantees an exhilarating contest and a fair share of surprises.
In his sophomore season, Razvan remains with RN Vision STS and team-mate Gabriele Piana, while changing the vehicle. Aboard the new BMW M4 GT4, he was in the thick of the action in the Belgian opening round in Zolder. Teething issues relegated the #111 pair in the closing stages of the two 60-minute sprints, leaving them with no points in the Silver Cup standings after that first race weekend. They are both keen to make amends in Britain, confident that BMW Motorsport continued their progress in the new model’s infancy.
Once again, the pinnacle of GT4 racing in Europe boasts a grid of 40+ cars, spread across the three categories. The weekend schedule is more compact than usual, with all the action taking place during the weekend. On Saturday there are two hours of practice, followed by the short qualifying bursts for both races, while Sunday brings a pair of European GT4 races alternating with the Blancpain Sprint Series heats. Race 1 starts at 10:15 local time and race 2 will be underway at 14:40.
