Fourth success for Vito Postiglione and Karol Basz, who won the first of the two races of the fifth round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe at the Nürburgring. The duo of the Imperiale Racing team, who had jumped to the top of the PRO classification during the previous round held at Spa, thus consolidated their leadership in the championship. The same can also be said for the pair of the Antonelli Motorsport team formed by Loris Spinelli and Juan Perez, who arrived first in the PRO-AM after an electrifying race end. Andrej Lewandowski, crewed with Philipp Wlazik in one of the cars of VS Racing, left all the other AM drivers behind, thus consolidating his supremacy in the same class. In the Lamborghini Cup, the Thai Supachai Weeraborwornpong (Team Lazarus) returned to the top step of the podium, from where he had been missing since the first race at Monza.

The front row was monopolized by the Antonelli Motorsport team. The fastest in qualifying was Spinelli, the only driver to lap below 1m58s. Immediately behind was his teammate Giacomo Altoè. But a particularly chaotic start shuffled the cards and Kelvin Snoeks (Bonaldi Motorsport), who had started from the second row, initially took the lead followed by Stefano Colombo (Iron Lynx), who then ended up spinning. After three laps, Spinelli returned to the lead and maintained his position until the pit-stops, while Altoè lost several positions.

After the pit-stops, Perez took the lead, but the Colombian later had to surrender to Basz and nine minutes from the end he was bumped by Tuomas Tujula (VS Racing), who received a 10-second penalty. While Basz was firmly in the lead, Perez gradually lost positions, but managed to remain the leader in his class. Then the first place for the Pole driver was confirmed by the red flag, due to the car of Cyril Leimer stopped along the track because of a fire outbreak. In the PRO category, Kikko Galbiati and Joffrey De Narda took another podium and finished second overall with another car of Antonelli Motorsport, ahead of Tujula and Felipe Ortiz.

In the AM class, Lewandowski and Wlazik finished fourth ahead of the duo of the Dörr Motorsport team formed by Florian Scholze and Manuel Lauck. In the same category, Raffaele Giannoni took third place with the car of Automobile Tricolore. The PRO-AM podium was completed by the duo of Target Racing composed by Simon Larsson and Dennis Lind as well as the other Iron Lynx crew made up of Lorenzo Bontempelli and Emanuele Zonzini.

In Lamborghini Cup, a drive-thru penalty for crossing the white line at the pit-lane exit deprived Joseph Collado (AGS Events) of a possible victory that instead went to Weeraborwornpong. The Dutch driver, Gerard Van der Horst (Van der Horst Motorsport), managed to extend his lead in the standings, thanks to a second-place finish. The Englishman of MTech, Tim Richards, also took a class podium.

Race 2, always lasting 50 minutes with a rolling start and mandatory pit-stop, is scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CEST and can be followed in live-streaming on the website squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming and on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Facebook page www.facebook.com/LamborghiniSquadraCorse.

Basz, the fastest in the second qualifying session, will be starting from the pole position.

DRIVERS’ QUOTES

Vito Postiglione/Imperiale Racing (1st overall and PRO): “The start was quite turbulent and I made sure I didn’t get involved in any contact. Then, I took my rhythm and left the car to Basz in second overall position. After the pit-stop, Karol completed the job and took a very important victory for the championship”.

Juan Perez/Antonelli Motorsport (1st PRO-AM): “I must say that Pirelli really did an excellent job. Tujula bumped into my car in the last laps and damaged the rear right tire, which nevertheless resisted until the end. Looking at the standings, this is a fantastic result for us”.

Andrej Lewandowski/VS Racing (1st AM): “I’m very happy, also for the fact that I took fourth place overall. I gained more important points and maintained a good advantage in the class standings”.

Supachai Weeraborwornpong/Team Lazarus (1st Lamborghini Cup): “It’s a privilege for me to have won on a track like the Nürburgring, where I was racing for the first time. I had a difficult qualifying session, but everything went smoothly in the race”.
