Orange Racing powered by JMH will join the Intelligent Money British GT Championship grid at Donington Park next weekend with GT Cup title contenders Simon Orange and Michael O’Brien.

The team, its McLaren 720S and drivers lead GT Cup’s Overall and GT3 Drivers’ Championships, as well as the Teams’ classification, heading into this weekend’s Snetterton season finale.

O’Brien’s last British GT outing came in 2020 at Silverstone where he and James Baldwin were part of a four-way GT3 title showdown. His McLaren factory association has seen him race elsewhere since then, but most notably in GT Cup where he won the GTH (GT4) class title with his current team’s 570S last season.

He returned to the cockpit of a 720S at the start of this year alongside Orange who won GT Cup’s Overall and GTA championships in 2020 before retaining the latter with his new team Orange Racing powered by JMH last season. Their GT3 partnership has yielded four outright endurance victories, while Orange has also won several sprint races.

“I’m looking forward to racing in British GT,” said Orange, who won in GT Cup alongside O’Brien at Donington in mid-September. “It will be a good test of where we are in our first year of GT3 racing and to race against the other great drivers, and teams, in the UK’s elite GT series is really exciting.”

O’Brien, who ultimately finished fourth in the 2020 championship standings, sees no reason why the team can’t feature at the sharp end next weekend.

“It feels great to be back in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship,” said the 28-year-old. “Having followed it closely over the course of the season I was delighted when the opportunity opened up for us to race at the Donington Decider. Despite this being our first British GT appearance, the expectation of myself and the team is very high; we’re here to win and that’s very much the objective for Donington.”

Race-by-race entries like Orange Racing powered by JMH’s are not eligible to score points at Donington where this year’s GT3 and GT4 champions will be crowned on October 16.
