WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Utah) are ready for their second race in seven days at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Mobil 1 Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP), July 7-9.
Coming off of a fourth-place finish at Watkins Glen just two days ago, MacNeil and Jeannette are looking forward to running the 2.4-mile, 10-turn undulating road course, formerly known as Mosport, located 45-minutes north of Toronto. MacNeil won at Mosport in 2013 in a GTC Porsche and is looking forward to running the challenging track this weekend.
“Personally, I’ve had some good success at Mosport in years past with Alex Job in a Porsche,” MacNeil said. “This car [Mercedes-AMG] is well-balanced. It’s more balanced than the Porsche was. That’s important because Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is a high speed, downforce track that requires concentration and precise placement of the car. Our Mercedes is handling very well. We have a lot of downforce and I’m looking forward to using it in Canada.”
Jeannette is a 2011 winner at CTMP in the Le Mans Prototype Challenge Class.
“I love Mosport,” Jeannette said. “I’ve had good success there in the past. It’s one of the coolest tracks in North America. I’m looking forward to it. We struggled a bit at Watkins Glen with how heavy we are. I don’t imagine it’s going to be a ton different [in Mosport]. I don’t expect a run at the sharp end, which is unfortunate. But, you never know what can happen.”
Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is the next stop on the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship schedule and the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix July 7 – 9. GTD Class Qualifying will take place on Saturday, July 8 at 12:05 p.m. The race will be broadcast on FS1 at 12:00 p.m. EDT, Sunday July 9.
