Mathieu Jaminet in a Porsche sets fastest time : Lamborghini and Audi also in the Top Three
Jaminet (22, FRA, KÜS Team75 Bernhard) clocked a time of 1:36.321 minutes, just 0.062 thousandths under the time set by Marco Mapelli (29, ITA, Team HB Racing) in the faster of the two Lamborghini Huracán GT3s on the 4.31km circuit.
“We can feel satisfied with today,” said Jaminet. “We got through our planned programme. My team-mate Michael Ammermüller drove in the first free practice, and in the second, it was my turn. The car feels better and better. But I think that tomorrow will be more difficult for us, as the track doesn’t suit the Porsche all that well. I’m hoping, though, that we can qualify in the Top Five.”
The two Audi R8 LMSs entered by Aust Motorsport were third and fourth fastest. Markus Pommer (26, DEU) and Kelvin van der Linde (21, ZA) had the edge on their team-mates Dennis Marschall (20, DEU) and Patric Niederhauser (25, CH, both Aust Motorsport). Rolf Ineichen (39, CH) and Christian Engelhart (30, DEU, both GRT Grasser Racing Team) took fifth position in another Lamborghini. The sixth-placed Mercedes-AMG GT3 of local favourite Indy Dontje (24, NL) and Marvin Kirchhöfer (23 DEU, both Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport) gave the home crowd something to cheer about. In all, there were 15 cars within a second of each other in FP2. Qualifying for the first race on Saturday takes place at 9am CEST and will be shown as a live stream.
Penalties for Eng and Marschall
BMW driver Philipp Eng (27, AUT, BMW Team Schnitzer) and Audi driver Dennis Marschall must start the first race with a handicap. They have been given a five-place grid penalty for ignoring the red flag in the first free practice session.
