Meyer Shank Racing will stage a two-car campaign in the fourth round of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition on home soil as the series makes a return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The Columbus-area team first got its start at the track in 1994 and is eager to return to competition at the facility.
The No. 86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 – which will be piloted by Katherine Legge and Alvaro Parente – will join the team’s No. 93 full season entry – driven by Lawson Aschenbach and Justin Marks – at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this May.
With the No. 86 originally slotted for the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup (TPNAEC) championship-only event schedule, it will now make an extra IMSA appearance at the team’s home track thanks to the support of several Columbus-area team partners including CAP Fixtures, Roberts Service Group and the Rocky Fork Company.
Located just outside of Columbus, Ohio, Meyer Shank Racing is looking forward to the series’ return to the classic sports car course. The May 4-6 event weekend is the first time for MSR to compete in the GTD ranks at the home track, having most recently raced at the 2.258-mile road course in 2013 in IMSA Prototype competition.
The No. 86 machine has shown strong pace in the opening rounds of the WeatherTech championship including a run to the podium at the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Having had such a strong start to the year, the team is hoping to continue that momentum with the No. 86 Acura NSX GT3 at Mid-Ohio.
“We’ve had a strong start to the season so far with both cars and we’ve been working really hard to get the 86 car out for Mid-Ohio,” said Mike Shank. “This track is so close to home and we have had so many great memories at this event, we were really motivated to make it happen. This is going to be a big weekend for us. We are really fortunate to have the partners that we do, who all wanted to see this happen. Katherine (Legge) and Alvaro (Parente) will come on board and I know that they both can continue their pace that they have shown already this season.”
Round 4 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will bring Meyer Shank Racing to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on May 4-6th.
