NEXT STOP HUNGARORING: BLANCPAIN GT SERIES SPRINT CUP
There are only two weeks to go until the Blancpain GT Series heads to the Hungaroring on August 25th-27th for the penultimate round of the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup. Hungary’s 14-turn, 4.381km circuit could play a crucial role in this year’s fight for the championship..
HTP Motorsport is leading the overall Teams classification with a five-points lead over Team WRT and Grasser Racing Team – both of whom have 49 points in their pockets.
Last year’s Hungaroring winner Maxi Buhk (Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport) is travelling to Hungary leading the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup overall driver’s standings. He is sharing the first position with his team mate Frank Perera who both scored 49 points so far and are 5 points ahead of Markus Winkelhock and Will Stevens (Belgian Audi Club Team WRT) and 7 points ahead of Stuart Leonard (Team WRT) in third position.
In the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup Pro-Am category Rinaldi Racing is on top (83 points) closely followed by Kessel Racing (82 points) and AKKA ASP (60 points). Daniel Keilwitz/Alexander Mattschull (Rinaldi Racing), Carlo Van Dam/Piti Bhirombhakdi (Kessel Racing TP12) and Michael Broniszewski/Giacomo Piccini (Kessel Racing) are the Top-3 pairings in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup Pro-Am driver’s classification with 77, 73 and 62 points respectively.
But the race meeting at the Hungaroring is not only about titles and trophies. For the second time, the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup is one of the highlights of the Hungarian Truck Fest hosting a wealth of attractions for fans and participants. Family activities and a freestyle motocross show are on offer for the visitors.
One of the attractions of the Festival is the parade on public roads, which will take place on Thursday, August 24th. From 16:00 onwards, spectators will be able to watch the trucks and supercars drive down to 56 Square, where visitors admire the cars, get autographs from their favorite drivers or just enjoy the show.
The racing action starts on Friday, August 25th with the free practice of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup at 10:00 and continues with the FIA European Truck Racing Championship’s free practice. Furthermore, fans can enjoy track action with Blancpain’s GT Sports Club who will take to the circuit for their first free practice on Saturday.
