Watkins Glen to Open 2018 Season; Road Atlanta to Serve as Finale

Salem, NH – The iconic Watkins Glen International will play host to the season opening Formula Race Promotions (FRP) event for the Atlantic, F2000 and F1600 Championships, May 11-13. The previous season-opening weekend scheduled at Road Atlanta, April 20-22, has been moved to October 20-21 at the request of the track owner and will now serve as the invitational-only season finale.

Road Atlanta track officials informed FRP ownership in mid January that the track would be used for other events on the previously scheduled FRP weekend. Road Atlanta and FRP then worked closely together to secure a date for a two-day race weekend in October to complete the seven-weekend season for the Atlantic, F2000 and F1600 Championships.

“It is not easy to make changes to a published event schedule,” commented Robert Wright and Al Guibord, series co-owners. “The schedule is part art, part science and part finance – a months-long process of piecing events together. While disappointed to see our season opener pushed back, we were happy to come together to find an amicable solution with Road Atlanta’s executive team on short notice.”
