MDD SIGNS TYLER O’CONNOR TO F4 PROGRAM
“New driver added to the driver development program”
Jay Howard’s Motorsports Driver Development program (MDD) continues to add to their growing United States Formula 4 program, signing Tyler O’Connor as the newest member to the team. O’Connor will be driving the #11 car, the team’s newly-introduced F4 car, at the next round of the United States F4 series at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) August 24-25.
“I am really happy to have Tyler join our program,” explained Howard. “He has been pretty impressive in other series of competition and I think he will get up to speed pretty quickly at VIR. We are looking forward to having him as part of the MDD family.”
The #11 F4 car made its debut at the last round of the series in Mid Ohio Sports Car Course this past weekend with driver Colin Mullan behind the wheel. Mullan managed a great performance in his debut, finishing fifth, seventh, and thirteenth, respectively in his three races, the final one in which he drove forward from his 31st place starting position to finish thirteenth after being issued a penalty from the second race. At the end of race three and his string drive forward, Mullan was awarded the JRI Hard Charger award for his efforts.
Tyler O’Connor tested with the MDD team at Gingerman Raceway, showing speed, skill, and proved to be a quick learner. O’Connor has been running the Lucas Oil Formula Car Racing Series this season, and has had a great season to date, currently sitting in the fourth position in the overall championship standings. The race at VIR with the MDD team will be his first time racing in an F4 car but he and the team are looking forward to event.
