Carmen Jorda Drives Formula E Car
Former Renault and Lotus Formula 1 development driver Carmen Jorda got her first experience of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship this weekend in Mexico City, having sampled the championship’s test car prior to Saturday’s E-Prix.
Jorda, who was recently elected to the FIA’s Women in Motorsport commission, was invited to try her hand in the all-electric Spark SRT_01E and came away impressed with its capabilities.
She had completed simulator work with Mahindra prior to the test.
“I loved it,” Jorda said. “Actually, I have a good impression. I thought it was going to have less grip and downforce, but no, it really surprised me.
“It’s a challenging car as well as you have to manage so many things, that in a regular car, you don’t have to.
“It’s difficult, too, with the braking and power and energy. It’s different racing, but I enjoyed it.”
Jorda, who hasn’t raced competitively since 2016, indicated a desire to one day compete in Formula E.
“I think it’s a great championship; it’s growing. I think it’s the future as well,” she said.
“Looking forward to maybe being here soon.”
