(BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Aug. 10, 2018) The green flag flew on Friday to open Canada’s biggest motorcycle road race – the Superbike Doubleheader weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP).
Running through Sunday, August 12, Canada’s top motorcycle road racers will be competing for the national Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship. The weekend also marks the 40th anniversary of the first Superbike race at CTMP – won by event grand marshal American John Long.
In Friday’s action, Clarksburg, Ontario’s Ben Young scored the pole for Saturday’s featured Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship Race 1. Riding the No. 86 BMW S1000RR, Young posted the fastest time in qualifying with a 1:20.523. Starting alongside Young on Saturday will be 12-time series Champion Jordan Szoke. Szoke, from Lynden, Ont., rode his No. 1 BMW S1000RR to a time of 1:20.991. Szoke comes into the weekend looking to secure his 13th, and fourth straight, championship.
Saturday’s schedule features a full slate of both on-track and off-track action. Off-track, Jordan Szoke’s Extreme Show is set to perform a high-adrenaline freestyle motocross show, while Honda, BMW and Harley-Davidson will be offering demo rides. Honda will also be running its Junior Red Riders program for 6- to 12-year-olds to learn how to ride in an environment that is designed to be safe, fun and community-focused. Later Saturday night, the Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival presents the Outdoor Movie Night featuring award-winning film Dream Racer. All these off-track features are included with event admission.
Weekend Super Tickets ($60), General Camping ($50) and RV Camping ($70) are available to purchase at the gate. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
