SONOMA, Calif. – Fire companies and Sonoma Raceway officials are working to keep wildfires from encroaching upon speedway property.
As of Monday morning the facility has not been damaged by the wildfires, which have been burning throughout Sonoma and Napa counties as fire fighters worked through the night to keep the flames at bay.
“All of us at Sonoma Raceway extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to those who have been touched by the devastating North Bay fires,” said Sonoma Raceway President and General Manager Steve Page. “Our facilities team and a number of local fire companies have been battling grassland fires on Cougar Mountain and elsewhere around our property, and at this point it does not appear any of the raceway’s structures or other facilities are at immediate risk. We appreciate all of the good wishes that have flooded in from friends around the state and country.”
California Governor Jerry Brown issued an emergency proclamation for Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties Monday morning. A state of emergency was also declared in Santa Rosa, Calif., which is roughly 40 minutes away from Sonoma Raceway within Sonoma County.
