Formula 4 returns to Germany in partnership with FIA Member Club Deutscher Motor Sport Bund (DMSB)

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, is delighted to welcome the F4 German Championship Certified by FIA back to the Formula 4 family from 2027. 

Approved by the World Motor Sport Council during its gathering in Macau last month, the F4 German Championship Certified by FIA will increase the number of FIA-certified Formula 4 championships to 14. 

Bringing Formula 4 back to Germany for the first time since 2022 is a significant development and another boost for young drivers aiming to climb the FIA Single-Seater Pyramid.  

With Kimi Antonelli (2022) and Oliver Bearman (2021) among its former champions, the F4 German Championship Certified by FIA, which will be promoted by Gedlich Racing, will further rejuvenate the single-seater arena in Germany and neighbouring countries. 

A seven-event schedule on FIA Grade 1 or Grade 2 circuits is planned for 2027 as part of the DTM platform through a multi-year agreement with the series in partnership with FIA Member Club Deutscher Motor Sport Bund (DMSB). 

Home to several professional teams and boasting a strong karting structure, Germany remains a motor sport powerhouse. The return of the entry-level F4 category will provide a platform for the country to develop the next generation of young driving talents, while also equipping young engineers and technicians with vital knowledge and expertise. 

The F4 German Championship Certified by FIA will operate a multi-team entry model and utilise the FIA-homologated Tatuus Gen2 F4 chassis and standardised turbocharged engines supplied by Autotecnica Motori. Pirelli and TM Performance have been appointed the official tyre and brake suppliers respectively.  

A substantial media and promotion package is being developed to support the F4 German Championship Certified by FIA, including live streaming of all races.  

FIA Single-Seater Commission President Emanuele Pirro said: “There has been a clear gap in the market between Germany’s thriving karting scene and the international single-seater pyramid. The F4 German Championship Certified by FIA bridges that gap. Germany’s single-seater championships were always strong in the past, creating many champions of the future. The return of F4 to the country will revive that tradition and promote the new generation of talent. By contesting a Formula 4 Championship Certified by the FIA, drivers and teams not only benefit from regulatory consistency, they can follow a clear and structured development pathway. The fact that F4 German Championship Certified by FIA will take place at high-quality venues as part of a significant racing package should further incentivise and enable participation.” 

DMSB Board Member for Sport Robin Strycek said: “With the FIA-certified F4 Germany, we are strengthening formula racing in Germany. Formula 4 represents a crucial step in the development of young drivers on their journey to the highest level of motor sport. We are delighted to support this process together with Gedlich Racing, the FIA and all other partners, and look forward with great anticipation to the debut season of this new junior championship.”
