Lando Norris took McLaren’s first victory of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship season with a controlled drive to victory in the Sprint at the Miami Grand Prix, leading home team-mate Oscar Piastri for a McLaren one-two.
The reigning World Champion finished 3.7 seconds clear of Piastri after 19 laps around the Miami International Autodrome, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completing the podium in third.
Norris made a strong start from the front, while Antonelli struggled off the line and dropped behind Piastri and Leclerc into fourth. Behind them, George Russell moved ahead of Max Verstappen, who also got off the line slowly. The Red Bull driver was then sandwiched between Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. The Dutchman banged wheels with to initially hold position but Hamilton was able to get past and Verstappen dropped to sixth.
Antonelli also attempted to fight back, attacking Leclerc into Turns 8 and 11, but the Ferrari driver resisted and eventually the championship-leading Italian dropped back into the clutches of team-mate Russell. The Mercedes pair swapped positions at Turn 17 on lap eight, before Antonelli reclaimed fourth at Turn 11 one lap later.
Further back, Verstappen passed Hamilton beyond the white lines in Turn 17 on lap 9 and was instructed to hand the place back. The Red Bull driver was swiftly back on the attack, however, and a lap later he got the move done cleanly to take sixth.
By then, the top three had escaped. Norris led Piastri by 2.7s, while Leclerc ran 1.3s behind the Australian. The Ferrari driver attempted to close in the final stages but ran deep at Turn 11 on the penultimate lap, ending his challenge.
Norris duly converted pole into victory ahead of Piastri and Leclerc. Antonelli crossed the line fourth, but a five-second post-race penalty for track limits dropped him to sixth, behind Russell and Verstappen. Hamilton and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly completed the points-paying positions.
Antonelli still leads the championship, but his advantage over Russell has been reduced to seven points.
