Three drivers enter four hour endurance event at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Closing out their 2016 season with a victory at the Formula & Automobile Racing Association (FARA USA) promoted Miami 500, M1 GT Racing will return to the site of that victory, the famed Homestead-Miami Speedway this coming weekend. With a strong three driver lineup, M1 GT Racing, a premier Audi Sport customer racing program will enter their Audi R8 LMS in the Sunset 500 with James Dayson, Caesar Bacarella and Lars Viljoen in their quest to make it back-to-back wins in FARA USA events.

“We have a great three driver lineup and a real shot at another victory,” expressed Technical Director Remi Lanteigne. “We now have a full season under our belt with the Audi R8 and have progressed nicely. The knowledge and experience that we have attained is very valuable, and we will be able to transfer that to James, Caesar and Lars this weekend.”

Entering this weekend’s event, M1 GT Racing is the defending FARA USA Miami 500 race winning team, the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge Sprint X Pro Drivers Championship winning team as well as the Vice Champion in the Sprint X Amateur Drivers Championship and overall Team Championship.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to join a program in M1GT,” explained James Dayson. “They have a great group of people involved from ownership right down to managers, engineer and mechanics. The success they’ve had speaks to the commitment the team has to succeed. I look forward to being a part of this team and growing with them. This will be my first foray into sports cars as all I’ve driven so far in my career has been open wheel and prototypes. I look forward to the challenge and can’t wait to hit the track at this very cool FARA Sunset 500 event.”

“This will be my first event with M1 GT Racing, something that I have been looking forward to for quite some time,” explained Lars Viljoen. “I competed in the PWC Sprint X program in 2016 and had to race against M1 GT, and they were always one of the best and on top of their game at each and every event. I have been speaking with Remi for almost a year now and am happy to finally be able to put a deal in place. The Audi R8 is a fantastic looking car and is obviously very fast. The team is top notch and the best looking in the paddock. I am honored to have the chance to finally compete under the M1 GT Racing banner.”

Viljoen continued, “Not only are we aiming to win the Sunset 500, I am also working to evaluate my role with in the team in the hopes of possibly being able to put together a bigger and more elaborate program throughout the 2017 season.”

“I am beyond excited to get to the track this weekend, especially now that I know I will be competing with M1 GT Racing,” explained Caesar Bacarella. “The FARA Sunset 500 is a great event, and I am using it as a shakedown for not only myself, but the Audi R8 and to learn the ins and outs of this elite racing team. We are looking for a good race and successful weekend, but also looking to finalize the deal that will put me in the seat of the M1 GT prepared Audi for the entire PWC Sprint X program in 2017. We are on the five-yard line, just need to put the ball in the end zone.”

Broadcast live on the Internet, the Sunset 500 event weekend will take place April 1 and 2 on the 2.23-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway Road Course and feature multiple different racing classes. With the M1 GT Racing Audi R8 in the premiere Sunset 500 event taking place Saturday evening, the green flag will fly at 6:00pm and the race concluding at 10:00pm
