WEERTS/VANTHOOR MAKE IT A BRACE OF WINS FOR AUDI IN THE GERMAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP IN ZANDVOORT

Audi was the dominant manufacturer at the third race weekend of the season in the German GT Championship: after yesterday’s success, Charles Weerts (20/B) and Dries Vanthoor (22/B, both Team WRT) claimed a second victory for the brand with the four rings in Sunday’s race. Second place for Mercedes-AMG drivers Maximilian Buhk (28/Hamburg) and Raffaele Marciello (26/I, both Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP/WWR), and third place for Rolf Ineichen (42/CH) and Franck Perera (37/F, both GRT Grasser Racing Team) meant the podium featured three different manufacturers. “I really like the circuit here in Zandvoort and it is nice to have won here,” said winner Charles Weerts. “The whole weekend has been very good for us, with fifth place on Saturday, followed by pole and the win today.”

1 AIM VILLORBA CORSE WARMS THE ENGINES UP FOR THE MONZA 4 HOURS

After Thursday’s pre-race testing day, 1 AIM Villorba Corse is ready for the 4 Hours of Monza. Fourth round of the 2021 European Le Mans Series on July 9-11, Italian event is the only home racing weekend on the ELMS calendar for the team led by Raimondo Amadio. that lines up #18 Ligier JS P320 powered by Nissan for racing drivers Alessandro Bressan, Damiano Fioravanti and Andreas Laskaratos. The two Italian and the Greek are expecting a high-revs weekend in the Temple of Speed and the event is particularly felt by the whole team, that will try to make up for the last two complicated races at the Red Bull Ring and Le Castellet, conditioned by unforeseen and unfortunate events.

ERA MOTORSPORT ARRIVES IN MONZA TO CONTINUE ELMS CAMPAIGN

The second half of the 2021 European Le Mans Series begins this week in northern Italy, and the No. 17 IDEC SPORT / Era Motorsport LMP2 car will be one of 44 entries competing in the 4 Hours of Monza. Following a strong performance but early retirement at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship last month, the trio of Kyle Tilley, Dwight Merriman, and Ryan Dalziel hope the progress made on their racing machinery in the states will benefit the European race program as well.

GRT GRASSER RACING TEAM REINFORCES ZANDVOORT LINE-UP WITH FOUR LAMBORGHINI WORKS DRIVERS

After an intensely busy few weeks in the USA, the GRT Grasser Racing Team can now look forward to a well-deserved trip to seaside. Next stop after Watkins Glen is Zandvoort on the Dutch North Sea coast and the good vibes that come from renewing the chase for the 2021 ADAC GT Masters title. Rounds five and six of this year’s Super Sports Car League are due to be hosted by the Netherlands next weekend (9th – 11th July). Team principal Gottfried Grasser and his crew are aiming for a first win of the season and have therefore recruited from Italy to reinforce the squad manning their four-strong fleet of Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO cars.

ROVERA READY FOR DOUBLE ELMS/FIA WEC HOME ROUND IN MONZA

Time for the long-awaited double home appointment at Monza for Alessio Rovera on the #88 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE. After several national victories, the 26-year-old Italian driver from Varese, some 50 km from Monza, will return racing on the Autodromo Nazionale to face this year’s challenges of the international endurance events promoted by ACO / Le Mans and FIA. On July 9-11 the 4 Hours of Monza will be the round of the 2021 European Le Mans Series, while the following weekend (July 18) will host the 6 Hours as third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

THE GERMAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS ON THE DUTCH NORTH SEA COAST

Sun, sand and super sports cars: This weekend (9th to 11th July), the unique holiday atmosphere of Zandvoort awaits the German GT Championship. The ADAC GT Masters will start for the first time – even before Formula 1 – on the spectacular new layout at the Dutch circuit, which nestles in the North Sea dunes and was remodelled last year. Just short of 30 GT3 cars will be out to beat the Porsche 911 GT3 R of championship leaders Michael Ammermüller (35/Rotthalmünster) and Mathieu Jaminet (26/F, both SSR Performance). Up to 3,000 spectators per day will be able to watch the summer spectacle live at the racetrack.

LAMBORGHINI SECURES FIRST ITALIAN GT ENDURANCE VICTORY OF THE SEASON IN THE MUGELLO 3 HOURS

Lamborghini recorded its first Italian GT Championship Endurance victory in the second round of the season at Mugello, courtesy of Imperiale Racing’s Stuart Middleton, Alberto Di Folco and Andrea Amici. The trio brought their Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo home second on the road at the end of the three-hour race but were elevated to winners following a pit-stop infringement penalty for the car ahead. The triumph also means that Middleton, Di Folco and Amici moved into the lead of the championship standings heading into the next round of the Endurance campaign at Vallelunga in September.
