MERCEDES-AMG MOTORSPORT CELEBRATES 50-YEAR ANNIVERSARY AT THE 24 HOURS OF SPA

For Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, the 2021 TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa 2021 (29th July – 1st August) mark an extraordinary anniversary. Exactly 50 years ago, the long-standing brand from Affalterbach achieved its first major success in the Belgian endurance racing classic. In 1971, the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8 AMG finished in second place overall and secured victory in its class. In this year’s edition, 13 Mercedes-AMG GT3s will be on the grid for the world’s biggest race exclusively for GT3 cars, two of them with extended support from Mercedes-AMG. As an homage to the “rote Sau”, as the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8 AMG is colloquially known as well, the Mercedes-AMG Team HubAuto car with starting number 50 will be racing in the historic livery from the year 1971.

THE SECOND EVOLUTION OF THE AUDI R8 LMS GT3

With 83 drivers titles won worldwide and 106 additional championship victories, the Audi R8 LMS is one of the most successful GT3 race cars. To ensure that this continues to be the case, Audi is presenting the evo II model. The revised mid-engine sports car is even more specifically tailored to the requirements of private customer teams, but the additional price is still moderate.

STRONG PACE GOES UNREWARDED FOR GRT GRASSER RACING AT LIME ROCK PARK

GRT Grasser Racing headed to a very special circuit in the USA last weekend to contest the fourth round in the Sprint Cup of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship. The venue was Lime Rock Park in the state of Connecticut, which is recognized as a place of historic importance. Once again, Lamborghini works driver Franck Perera and IMSA specialist Misha Goikhberg clearly demonstrated the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO’s strong pace in the American sports car championship at the Northeast Grand Prix. However, they had to settle for seventh place despite posting the fastest race lap. Bad weather led to the race being stopped before it had run its course.

PORSCHE WINS GTE-PRO IN ROUND 3 OF THE FIA WEC AT MONZA

Porsche has won the Monza round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Kévin Estre from France and Neel Jani from Switzerland crossed the finish line first in the fiercely contested GTE-Pro class at the wheel of the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR on Italy’s high-speed circuit. For the works driver duo, this was the second win from the third race so far this season after their triumph at the opening round in Belgium. Gianmaria Bruni from Italy and the Austrian Richard Lietz concluded the gripping six-hour race on the home turf of their main rival Ferrari in third place. As the best customer team, Project 1 scored fourth place in the GTE-Am category with the No. 56 Porsche 911 RSR.

FERRARI WINS LMGTE AM AT 6 HOURS OF MONZA

STANLEY NSX-GT WINS AT MOTEGI FROM POLE POSITION

The MOTEGI GT 300km RACE, Round 4 of the 2021 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series was held on the afternoon of July 18 (Sun) at Twin Rings Motegi (one lap 4,801m x 63 laps) in Tochigi Pref. In the GT500 class, the No. 1 STANLEY NSX-GT (Naoki Yamamoto/Tadasuke Makino) came from behind after giving up the lead once to take its first win of the season. In the GT300 class, the No. 2 muta Racing Lotus MC (Hiroki Kato/ Ryohei Sakaguchi) took its first win as a new team.

WRIGHT MOTORSPORTS SCORES PODIUM AT LIME ROCK PARK

Wright Motorsports braved sweltering temperatures and stifling humidity this weekend at Lime Rock Park, leaving the Northeast Grand Prix with a hefty points pull to go towards their Michelin Pilot Challenge championship endeavor. Lightning cut short the two-hour, 40-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship sprint race, disappointing drivers and teams alike, eager to earn valuable championship points.

THIRD STRAIGHT FIA WEC POLE POSITION FOR PORSCHE

Porsche takes up round three of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) from pole position on the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. In the ca. 515 PS 911 RSR, works driver Kévin Estre from France turned the fastest qualifying lap on the high-speed circuit in 1:45.412 minutes. With this third consecutive top qualifying time, the Porsche GT Team celebrates a flawless hat-trick in the GTE-Pro category. Estre shares the car with Neel Jani from Switzerland. At the wheel of the sister car, which followed a different tyre strategy, Gianmaria Bruni (Italy) posted the third quickest time on home turf in 1:45.844 minutes. For the race, he shares the cockpit with Austria’s Richard Lietz. In the GTE-Am class, a 911 RSR fielded by the Project 1 customer team starts from P4. This event marks the first time the FIA World Endurance Championship races on the storied 5.793-kilometre racetrack just outside Milan.

YAMAMOTO IN THE STANLEY NSX-GT TAKES SUPER GT POLE POSITION AT MOTEGI

The qualifying for the MOTEGI GT 300km RACE, Round 4 of the 2021 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series took place at Twin Rings Motegi in Tochigi Pref. on July 17 (Sat). In the GT500 class, the No. 1 STANLEY NSX-GT (Naoki Yamamoto/Tadasuke Makino) won pole position. In the GT300 class, Yasuda in the No.11 GAINER TANAX GT-R (Katsuyuki Hiranaka/Hironobu Yasuda) won his first SUPER GT pole position.
